Best Shot Gun on Budget

So a local pawn shop has some good options. The one I'm most interested in is a Mossberg 500. It's good wood furniture, the Mossberg stickers are still on the buttstock and front stock, extended magazine, ported barrel, nice looking gun. But, it has a gold trigger and it looks like nickel plated bolt? Why??

They want $289 for it. That's a little more than I want to spend. What is with the nickel plated bolt and the gold trigger?

edit: I guess it's a chrome plated bolt... it just looks like cheap nickel plated plastic...

I love my older Remingtons, but if I was in your shoes, I'd look very hard at the Mossberg 500 2-barrel combo. I'd stay away from a pistol grip stock, as it makes the safety rather tough to manipulate. Mossbergs just run and run; if you buy new, you have a warranty to fall back on. I've seen the combo at Big 5 and Dick's for around $300, well under you budget. Spend the extra money on ammunition.

I bought a Maverick 88 a week or so ago. Its a decent shotgun. I think it will fit its roll as a lean in the corner waiting for the zombies kinda gun. The price was affordable at $200 at big A
Yesterday I went to the safe to do an infrequent wipe down of it contents. The first out was one of my Winchester Model 12s. Looking at it with the memory of the Maverick in my head all I could say was "WOW" this is a nice shotgun. Machined from steel receiver and complete trigger assembly with its step down lines, beautiful bluing and grained walnut stock. If the Maverick is worth $200 the Winchester is priceless..... Folks....they don't make um like that anymore.
This is a not so good pic of the 12 gauge

My vote is for the 870 express if you want something brand new on budget. But I like to add, I'm sure if you look around you can find an old wingmaster. They usually go for about 450 for one in 90% condition. I found an old beater for 200 bucks and refinished it completely. It looked like crap but functioned like it was brand new, it is a hard gun to wear out.

That is one nice looking Wingmaster! I had two similar without the white line spacers, which I liked better, but I'll take that version if you want to sell it.

Kudos!
