I have 2 revolvers, a Ruger GP100 for home defense/open carry (if I ever move somewhere that recognizes the Constitution) and a Smith and Wesson 642 for CCW.

What would be the best speedloaders for these? I was thinking Safariland Comp 1 for the 642 and Comp 2 for the GP100. Any other ideas?

dont understand

why more revolvers are not factory fitted with moon clips...with practice just a little slower than an auto

Moonclipping costs more machining time; since there's not much in the way of overall demand for this feature, most revolver makers don't include it.

You can get nearly any revolver machined for moonclips for less than a hundred dollars, though. The trick then is finding a way to actually carry the moonclip; Blade-Tech makes a holder. Unless you're using .45ACP moonclips, that's about the extent of your options. (And even with .45ACP, there ain't much out there.)

I use the Bianchi Speed Strip when carrying...Disappears in my pocket. HKS Speed Loader in my van glove compartment.
I carry spare ammo just to go through the motions...If I ever need more than 5 or 6 rounds for civilian SD, the extra ammo probably won't make a difference in the outcome.

I have the Safariland comp-somethings(the small ones)for my 642 and I have a hard time working them..for the 642 I actually prefer the HKS ones....I can grab the knob easier and get it out of my pocket faster.Sometimes the safariland ones hang up on the rubber grip.
I do use the big Comp(3 I think)for IDPA w/ my K frame sized Rossi and they are real fast, but too big for carry.I also just bought some small ones for that gun,but haven't tried them yet...maybe next week at idpa.

I've used both of the major brand name speedloaders

with my other revolvers--but when I got my j-frames for carry, I found the ones from speedloaders.com and decided to try them.

Here's a link to their site: http://www.speedloaders.com/

I bought a pair, and I heartily recommend them for j-frames, or for carry guns in general. They are considerably faster than Speed Strips, and much less finicky than getting 'standard' speedloaders in place.

One caveat: If carried in your pocket with other junk, the cartridges can be displaced / knocked out of their seating. I find that is not a problem if carried in a dedicated shirt pocket.

They're available at Brownell's and other places as well.

Speed Strips from Bianchi. They might be slower then speed loaders but I tend to carry them more because they are flat, concealable and pants pocket freindly.
