Best state for gun freedom

Consider South Carolina. We have a D+ on the Brady list, probably going down when the updates come out - SC has repealed the one handgun a month ruling, according to my dealer, as told to me yesterday. He told me he could sell you as many as you wanted and you could walk today.
You can also carry legal in your glove box, and a CCW is available statewide with recip in NC. Only bummer is NO open carry.

When it comes to hunting, just about anything goes. Rifles, slugs, shot, handguns, bow and BP - we have probaly the longest hunting season in the US: 15 Aug - 31 Dec. And this does NOT include the pre season and post season primitive hunts. The state also ranks consistently in the top 10 for deer strike insurance claims on automobiles.
And lets nor forget turkeys, quail, doves, small game, a liberal trapping allowance, coyotes, to name a few.

We even sell class C fireworks!

Final firearm benefit for you? More an more Damn Yankees* are moving here all the time, so you'd even have some company! Downside of this is no self respecting Southerner will talk to you.

* A yankee is one who comes to visit. a Damn Yankee = a Yankee who comes to stay.

Most states now have shall issue carry laws and many are more liberal about allowing firearms purchases and carry. The bigger issue is which states have stand your ground laws, and right to defense laws. SOme states issue permits but if you ever had to show or use your gun you will count on being arrested and charged and forced into court ot clear yourself. Florida I believe shines in this aspect.
California is a good example of a state that would force you to retreat from your own home if threatened rather than use force to protect yourself. You can only use force if you are trapped and unable to escape and give your home to the intruder while YOU retreat into the night. Thats why I moved out of that Commie state.

Well I sure am glad to see so many states with D's and F's from the brady bunch. I'm from Illinois so that wasn't too friendly (still have a FOID) and now I'm stationed in the PRC in one of the "you can't get a CCW without a sizeable donation to my re-election campaign" counties. It makes me happy to think that one day I will live in a place that actually allows me to defend myself. anyway, good luck with the move.

What's the likelihood of you going freelance as a programmer and doing the bulk of your work from a remote location? If you can swing that kind of situation then Alaska and Vermont are ideal. Incredibly free political environments, gorgeous scenery, and all the cold you could ever want (that's actually a plus for some of us).

If you really do need a large city then I'd have to recommend Phoenix. I've lived there and hate the heat and sprawl, but its gun culture is alive and well. Open carry without a permit, shall issue CCW, class III friendly, gunshops galore, etc. My major reservations about Phoenix all stem from my "paranoia." If there's any disruption at all to Phoenix's supply chain you can look forward to dying from dehydration relatively quickly. Or if America balkanizes along racial lines expect to be el lyncho'd.

I've found Washington (with an "R") to be a very good state as a gun owner. I know very few people who don't own firearms. In fact, except for some upper-middle class liberals in Olympia, I think everyone Iknow owns some kind of firearm

Phoenix metropolitan area, Arizona.

Great laws, great economy, and plenty of open space nearby.

Agreed on the laws and economy, but when I lived there, they kept closing off the good shooting places so you had to drive further and further out, or stick with the ranges. Not a problem if you don't mind driving out or paying range fees, but I was a poor starving grad student at the time. Now that I live in rural AZ, I live close enough to the shooting range that I hear the folks out there on Saturdays. I love it! You might want to check out Tucson. It's a bit more Democrat than Phoenix. All the more reason to get Republicans and Libertarians to move there...

Did you search for your answer yet? We have covered this may times in the past

I know I don't post here much, but I do like to come and look around. Have noticed that whenever a new member poses a question, invariably someone has a complaint(seems that way to me anyhow) about how a search should have been done because that topic has been done before or stop beating a dead horse or something similar. Thought this was a place for people to get together and talk about one of our favorite things..shooting and everything that goes along with it. Some new folks might want a fresh opinion or maybe they just think opinions have changed. My opinion is that I'm gonna find a different forum. Thanks to folks for good advice and interesting reading.
Adios

ariz , n mexico-maybe good for guns but are liveral states.(purposely spelled)
texas is good all the way around, but illegals are going to make it worse. Vermont and N. H. are very good gun states, but they are as liberal as you can get. Pick your poison. Florida is solidly conservative, but them Dem party controls the beaurocratic levers in that state.

No one has mentioned Mississippi yet, so I'll put in a plug for my home state. The Brady bunch hates us with an unholy passion, and we're about as far from liberal as you can get. We even managed to scare off the Right Reverend Fred Phelps and his slovenly gaggle of toothless harpies when they threatened to picket a funeral in Laurel. Evidently word reached him that the residents of The Free State of Jones(AKA Jones County, MS) were not amicable to his teachings, and that they had a surprise or two waiting for him and his esteemed flock. I went to their website, and their no-show was very weakly attributed to "missing their flight" or some such nonsense. Troublemakers who come to rural Mississippi stand a very good chance of getting their feelings hurt, if you catch my drift...
Any place that can keep such worthless vermin at bay is my kind of place to live, y'know?
