Kentucky-- Open cary with state pre-emption of all local gun laws (gold star on opencarry.com)

Shall issue CCW

Gun-friendly culture (rednecks) even in the "big cities", which aren't that big.

Loose hunting laws (can hunt deer with an Ar15, for instance)

Stand your ground/castle doctrine laws, with no possibility of civil suits if you kill someone who needs it

Cheap guns and ammo, no waiting periods, buy as many as you want

MGs are legal and LEO chiefs in at least some areas are helpful about the paperwork.

One of a few states that has a type of rifle named after it.

Lots of places to go shooting.

Florida:

Stand Your Ground Law: Anyone forcibly entering your home, car or business is presumed to be a threat to your life. You have no duty to retreat if attacked anywhere.

"No Guns" signs carry little weight. The only thing they do is give the business that posts them the right to ask you to leave. If you refuse to leave, you can be charged with trespassing. If you carry and nobody notices, you are not breaking any laws.

Great reciprosity with other states. Only Texas and Utah are as good.

No high-cap or "assault weapon" bans. If its ok by Federal law, its ok by state law.

No waiting period for any gun if you have a concealed weapons license.

You can carry in state parks and national forests.

Bars are off limits, but restaurants that serve alcohol are not.

There seem to be a decent number of shooting ranges. I have at least four within an hour of my house and two within 30 minutes.

There is no local preemption.

Vermont is a nice place for firearms rights. Second to only Alaska in my opinion. Have to love a place where you require no permit to conceal carry or open carry. You can own class 3 firearms, noise suppressors, sbrs with just the standard federal laws in place. Add to that no wait times, no having to inform police officers you are armed, no limits on the types or amount of firearms you can buy. Transfer of firearms between residents can be done without any paperwork, its hard to find a lower 48 state that really compares.

I need to buy a house there for March and early April when my hayfever kicks in and bug out before it gets that north.

Another vote for KY.
Come on, where's the love for the Bluegrass State?

And some of you Ohioans should compare your gun laws to what Kentucky has. I know that you have been making progress, but there is still lots of room for improvement (one that really burns me up is no carry in the freeway rest area buildings)

NV is better then VT

because we can carry rifles in our cars/trucks.
VT has some dumb rule to prevent poaching that prohibits easy access to rifles in your car.
afaik.

well I know it not on the list (i understand you only get 16 slots) but the only state i can vouch for is Minnesota since it's the only state i have ever lived in. It's a pretty gun friendly state. No supressors is the only big restriction i can think of. No handgun monthly limit. Shall Issue. Open carry allowed. Good hunting land. Minneapolis is somewhat anti gun but outside of the city it's not too bad.

Why isn't there a non-gun law state? Why are there so many law's and nit-picking on all the gun's out there? There is not one place around my city I can actually go shoot at. There is a b.s. indoor range in the city that charges 20.00 to shoot in a horrible lighting area. You have to buy there ammo. $23.00for a box of 50 9mm's. No rifles. No shotguns. No big bores over a .45. No holsters. That is right no holsters. You have to keep your gun in a box the whole time. No drills. No rapid fire. The nearest spot I can go is about 50 miles south. I'll cross my finger's that does not change.

They simply have to be unloaded. The ammo and gun can be sitting right by you within reach, and it's legal. And it doesn't apply to handguns (basically, a really stupid and useless anti-poaching law that has no real effect on anything, and most of the cops couldn't care less about enforcing it unless you're up to no good anyways, may not be too hard to get rid of if we ever get a better make up in the legislature, they've been too busy this year debating impeachment of the president. Same with the silencer ban which carries a whopping $25 state fine, showing how important they consider it, just need a good lobbying effort when a good chance arises).

VT seems to be one of the most pro-gun states sorry about Kentucky but I only have 16 options. What do you need silencers for anyhow?

I say Illinois is the best state to own a firearm.

Why? Because then you're bucking the tide, and you start to really not take for granted that 2nd ammendment! You start to appreciate your civic duty. There is a lot of work here for gun owners!

Georgia,

In the city I am from, it is the law that your household has to have and maintain a gun with ammo.

NV has some dumb rule where you need to get the state's permission to carry a pistol under your jacket.;)

I guess those "cute laws" were scary enough to criminals to lower burglary rates 89% in seven months.

Why not? That is what I ask. If you can own a gun, you shold not be limited by the accessories and extras you can have.
