What suppressor would you recommend for my LMT 10.5" MRP CQB 5.56? A local class III dealer seems to think that I need a longer barrel as that a 10.5" barrel will void the warranty of most suppressors. He says the bullet out of a 10.5" barrel is too unstable and may take out one of the baffles. He suggested a .30 cal suppressor. How would a .30 cal suppressor even attach to a 5.56? Also, I would assume it would be much less effective at noise reduction. Your thoughts?

I don't believe stabilization is the issue, it is more that the extra blast from unburnt powder causes excess baffle erosion. I run a Gemtech M4-02 barrel mount on my LMT 10.5" and a BCM 11.5" and have never had a baffle strike.

Most suppressor makers suggest using a muzzle brake for the muzzle device attachment point as the brake itself acts like a sacrificial baffle taking the brunt of the blast rather than the can's initial baffles. Surefire has made a can especially for the SBRs FA556SB which is specifically beefed up in order to handle the extra blast of an SBR.

Here is the Gemtech M4-02 on my LMT 10.5"

Most manufacturers void the warranty if the barrel is under 10 inches. Some manufacturers make cans for the shorter guns. Thunderbeast Arms makes a .223 can that is rated for as short as 7" and Innovative arms will stand behind their product on the short barreled guns as well.

You can use a direct thread can if you use a thread adapter, a .30 cal can will be louder than a dedicated can, if your barrel has the correct twist rate no worries about baffle strikes.

If its your first can I would recommend a .30 cal can as well for the simple fact that you most likely have guns .30 cal or smaller that you can suppress as well, so that one can will be able to cover more guns, but if your a competition shooter and you just want one for your AR get the .223/5.56 can.
