I am a pretty new hunter and found a spot that would be great for a blind to go. I'd like it to be elevated and it seems like for the money the tripod or quad style is the best but reviews seem all over the place so I figured I'd ask here. I'm a bigger guy, 6'1 and so I'd need something big enough and with a solid rifle rest. I figure the setups for two people would be best since I'm bigger and more space is nice even though I'd hunt solo mostly (though options are nice).

Any ideas or suggestions? I'd like to keep it under $500 and the cheaper the better but I don't want to go too cheap and regret it.

This is a good article if you must carry a support. Any of these will work fine, and all are well under your budget ;) http://www.reloaderaddict.com/best-hunting-tripod-best-shooting-tripod-review/ I confess I use, when I carry a support, crossed sticks that I made myself. My dad who is in his '80's, doesn't have the strength to hold the rifle while standing for long periods and he doesn't like the way his old body moves when even shooting in a standing position for short periods. He prefers, since he's steadier when hiking, to use a staff (so a monopod) that's been modified with a U shaped attachment near the top to help him support the rifle, and he prefers to shoot standing rather then me with my crossed sticks in a very tight, seated position. He basically forms the "tripod" with his body + the hiking staff while standing up.

I've seen several in Sportsman's Guide. Can't comment on the quality but they do have a selection.

I put up this quad stand from Academy Sports earlier this year and just hunted out of it for the first time this past week. It was extremely stable, had more than enough room, and the rail provided adequate support for shooting.

Because I could easily drive to the set up location, I personally assembled the upper portion of the stand and sat it in the bed of my truck before driving out to my hunting property so all I had to do was put the legs, ladder, and cross supports on when I got it to the location. Took about an hour to assemble the upper portion and about 30 minutes with my wife helping on site.

That looks perfect, I think I might have to go with that one. Thanks for the input.
