Hi everybody,
I know that there's a lot of mosin owners on this website and i was wondering if there is a certain type of mosin thats "best". Would it be the m44 or the 91/30 or maybe a finnish m39 or something? i'm a newb to surplus guns (except a little experience with a SKS) so all advice is welcome. Thanks!

The finnish mosins are some of the best. They 1. Look the best and 2. Are accurate. These guns will usually go for over $300. The deep blueing and tiger striped stocks are really good looking, at least i think so.

Russian mosins, which are by far the most common, are good too. The aren't as nearly as accurate as the finnish ones but are a lot cheaper. M44s, m91/30s and m38s can usually be had for less than $100. There are other models such as the m91 (original model), m91/59, i can't think of any others at the moment.

Then there are other variants. There are some polish, chinese, and romanian(?) I think. Chinese mosins can be had for REALLY cheap, i have heard of people getting them for around $25, but this is due to them usually not being in the best condition.

I've had over a dozen Mosins over the last few years. I sold them all and am down to one, my Chinese type 56 carbine that I bought for $40. It has the best Mosin trigger I've ever fired.
If I were in the market for another Mosin it'd either be a M38 (no bayonet to worry about like the M44) or a Finn rifle.
For a while, there were a bunch of arsenal refinished M38's out there. Look around, you can still find a nice one for around $100-$150.

I have read a lot about the Finns, but I have never shot one. The 91/30 faux sniper that I have is probably my favorite. The trigger is exceptional, and it is plenty accurate for 400 meter coyotes. I haven't shot it beyond that.

The soviets figured out how to make mosins fast and cheap. The Finns figured out to take the soviet Mosins and make them right.

Some of the soviet mosins are decent- if they were made before or after the war.
