i would say that a mosin fits most of that bill, and you can almost make spare parts yourself, from tire irons, and a warranty will not be needed. hicap is another thing alltogether. I personally allways liked the japanese Arisaka, and love the round, wish a new rifle mfgr chambered for it, centainly lots of ammo available for it. Other than that , how about a nice m1-carbine? tons of ammo, surplus and wolf, plus corbon, wolf, and Dx all make a hot plus p round for it now. Lots of parts, lots of mags, very handy, can find new ones, or oldies.

I would vote no for someone looking for cheap ammo. Sure there are deals to be had, but the prices are going up on .30 carbine and it wont get any cheaper. I love my carbine, but it kills me how expensive it is to keep my ammunition stocked up. Not to mention, the prices vary so widely on the rifles themselves it is getting hard to even find a clunker lower than $400.

Back in my dad and I got 2 SKS's for 80 bucks!!! Brand new packed with greeeeeeeease!
