Hey folks,

You all are getting too technical here.

The behavior of a .22LR at 100 Yards has enough similarities to a .308 at 1,000 Yards that I find shooting the .22 LR at 100 Yards to have many training benefits. I didn't mean for it to equate equally.

Stop checking the charts and get out there and shoot! :)

Shoot a .22 lr at 200 or 300. Makes it very interesting.

The only thing I really have to contribute is Be safe and have fun. Doesn't matter what you are shooting just be safe and have fun. :)

I'm prolly an oddball but my dad started me out with a break open single shot of some unknown vintage and model. We had four different barrels for it and with that one gun could do anything I needed. I wish I still had it but we lost that one in a fire. ( where's the uncontrollably crying smiley?)

I am kind of fond with those Rossi Break actions Sold at Wally mall. same deal and for me they're hard to beat. I bought one and I have a few different barrels for it I use. .22, .223, .17hmr, and 12ga. Not my only firearm but provably the one I use most.

I shoot a marlin 60 with scope (right handed, left eyed). Lots of fun at 50 yds, really frustrating at 100. You need a spotting scope to see where you hit - you will need one anyway if your planing long range shooting. Bulk ammo and a 5 mph cross wind and you are on a steep learning curve. You will also need a good shooting stand. I still would recommend the 243 (or 308), you will get better faster, fewer rounds down range. You can down-load the 243 with 100 gr SP to save barrel life.

It's much more like shooting a .308 at 250 yards. It certainly is an experience, but it's nothing near the challenge of shooting a .308 at 1000 yards and to say so continuously is simple wrong and misleading. Shooting that .22lr at 300 yards is a much closer relation to shooting a .308 at 1000 yards. I will agree to go out and shoot though.

Some of the "1000 yard" comparison is pointless anyway (at least for me) as I have no place to shoot at 1000yds and don't expect to find such a place any time soon. Though it would be neat to do so.
