Hey all!, me and some friends did some informal clay shooting a couple days ago. Had a blast. :D

Only part I didn't like was fishing through ammo boxes for more ammo.

What's an efficient way to keep 12 gauge rounds on my person?

My first thought was some kind of cool chest rig.

I'm open to ideas!

Look nice, have you got any experience with them?

If so, how breathable are they in dry summer heat?

Skeet vest is the way to go. I can shoot a 100 bird sporting with four boxes of cartridges in the pockets of mine, plus a few spares, no problem.

Does it ever feel like the weight of the rounds is hurting your back?

I hurt my back practicing patient lifts a few years ago, I've noticed a huge difference in ammo carry methods since than.

EX: On my old SKS stripper clip rig the weight feels too far forward, hurts my back after a while. The rig is loose even when tightened the most.

Other EX: My 5.11 back pack filled with college books or range gear, I don't feel a thing. The 5.11 has great back support and distributes the weight well.

I use a shell belt, my goofy ass coworker uses a Wally world bag tied to his belt loop. He can afford a belt, he's just to tight, he says I get a new one every time I buy shells.

Belt pouch. Holds a box - or two if you are not saving the hulls.

Besides a vest or shell pouch, look at the half vest, or its hunting cousin, the dove half vest - wear a belt around your waist and go from there. I prefer the vest to a pouch on one side as it distributes the weight more evenly. I shoot sporting clays, so I also carry different types of ammo for different target presentations. The half vest allows me to keep them on me, but separated

I use a half vest belt pouch and a bucket. One box in the pouch and 3 in the bucket with towel and water bottle. plenty of room in the bucket for spent hulls so the belt pouch doesn't get too bulky.
hint: square shell boxes fit better in a square bucket so I use a cat litter bucket. Everybody thinks I am a sponsored shooter for team Scoop Away.

I use a belt pouch, myself -- that's just what I started with and I saw no reason to change. As for vests, if you're going to be shooting in hot weather, a mesh vest is what you want. Just about everybody makes one.

You can usually find cheap mesh vests in Wal-Mart if you just want to try one out without a big cash hit.

I use a Belt pouch for skeet or trap, and my duck blind ammo bag for Sporting clays. It’s got a nice wide strap and disperses the weight of 6 boxes of 12 gauge quite nicely.

I enjoyed the belt shell bags the most. I know the vest offered protection against the kick in long sessions and that is in fact important, but the extra clothing overshadowed the belt bags only on the cold days atop the mountain.

camera bag

was in a hurry the other day on my way to the shooting range , quickly looked around for something to put my shells in , all i could find was a small camera bag with a shoulder belt , it worked so well I will now use it permanently

Don't tear the top off the shell box, fold it back, and slip it down through your belt. I've done that on a few occasions, but I use a cheap one-box belt holder now.

I use a belt also.

I see the upside of the vest being that I could carry more shells, but I don't want to be weighed down with them as where I shoot I can easily get more from the car.

5gal bucket on a small folding cart with the ammo thats not on me, plus water and snack, and a belt pouch for when I'm on the line. I got 50 on me and I hate carrying stuff if I do t have to

I use a clip on box holder/empty shell bag. I carry my extra ammo in a shooting (duffel) bag. My ear plugs, shooting glasses, tubes, and etc are in there too. The nylon clip-on hull bag folds up and goes in the duffel, so all I have to carry is my gun and shooting bag.

Can you mass produce those OneOunceLoad?

Looked at my local sportsman's, they've got some nice vests!

Although the geek in me wants to assemble a molle shotgun rig

I use a small game bag over my left shoulder so the bag itself is on my right hip, throw a couple of boxes of ammo in there, give it a shake and most of the cartridges go nose down so 9 / 10 you put you hand in an pick up the brass end ready to load.

I'm ghetto and just use a large MOLLE AR mag pouch around my normal belt. I only shoot clay maybe once every two months though.
