I'll just jump into 'em, then. :)

1) How many different versions are there, and for which guns?

2) How do they compare (as far as reliability goes) to regular box mags and/or belt feeds?

3) Are they high-maint? What are they made of?

4) How do they work?

5) Are they actually useful, or just "Tacticool?" Are they worth the money?

6) Will the AR-15/M16 version work in the following: AR-180B, Bushmaster M17s, Remington Pump Patrol Rifle (forgot its real name  )?

7) Who carries them?

Kinda OT: Are real, 50-rd drum mags being made yet for the Kahr/AO Thompsons? :scrutiny:

1) How many different versions are there, and for which guns?

M16 (any gun that accepts an M16 magazine.), HK33/53, G36, MP5, AUG. People have started making feed towers that allow MP5 drums to be used in Uzis, M11s, and Glocks.

2) How do they compare (as far as reliability goes) to regular box mags and/or belt feeds?

I've never had a reliability problem with any of them. Let one loaded for a year and dumped all 100 rounds on auto. Fed fine.

3) Are they high-maint? What are they made of?

No. They come with two tubes of graphite lubricant. Apply as needed. They're made out of a combination of metal/plastic.

4) How do they work?

Magic.

I couldn't give you specifics, as I've never torn one down (no need to). Here are some pictures that may help.

Who doesn't want to have 100 rounds of ammunition available all at once?

6) Will the AR-15/M16 version work in the following: AR-180B, Bushmaster M17s, Remington Pump Patrol Rifle (forgot its real name )?

Should. I've never tried, though.

People have started making feed towers that allow MP5 drums to be used in Uzis, M11s, and Glocks.

They are also making the same adapters to allow the M16 beta work in Mini14's. :D

There is also a factory beta mag that just came out for the Colt 9mm submachine gun.

I have read on Tactical Forums.com that they are not suitably reliable for military use. Appearently they have failed during military use.
However, I am not in the military and mine work great. I am getting ready to buy another one for the Colt 9mm.

Trivia question for you BETA savvy guys...

Any of you know how to unload a BETA ? (without firing it of course)

I had to call Rueben to find out... but that was several years ago

where is a good place to buy one for a good price. looked at the 90 rounder snail drums but wasnt getting that warm fuzzy feeling that I got from a beta drum. do you think they are going to go down any more in price or is it at as low as it is going to get?

That price is about average. They usually go for $200 without pouch and $250 with pouch, and loader.
