better irons or scope?

I have been thinking latly about the sights on my marlin model 60...they aren't bad but I'm not fond of them either.

Was thinking about a scope but most of the shooting I have been (and for the foreseeable future will continue) at the range of 25 yards or less. So the idea came to me that instead of scopping it since it is such a short range shooting that I might just upgrade the irons and maybe add a scope later after I ave a chance to work on marsmenship with the irons and step up to hunting at a later date. I also kind of like the idea of better irons better then a scope for some reason.

I have been thinking of getting these from miday for a new set up-
rear sight
front sight

Thoughts or ideas?

I prefer apature sights. I do like fiber optics. Even better though would be to get a nice red dot sight.

Also this may seem like a dumb question....

But how do I know which is the proper sight for my rifle? For instance on midway it says .625 barrel, .875 barrel, and so on. Looked in the owners manual and there isn't a specification. Just have to measure it? Havn't really replaced sights before so I'm not sure how to measure it so I know which sights to buy so I get the right size.

i've put williams target peeps on my marlin 60 and they are fantastic. the stock sights on the marlin 60 suck, and the williams peeps have really helped my ability to shoot the marlin 60 well. however, this doesn't come cheap. it's a pretty expensive setup. you'll need three things: 1) the target peep rear, 2) a new front sight ramp, and 3) the front sight itself. you can't just use the target peep rear with the stock front sight because it will shoot too high.

these are as per the williams catalog and what the williams sales representative told me and they work perfectly.
i forgot which size shorty ramp to get, but i believe it's the 3/8" shorty ramp. you should call williams to confirm.

Everyone should learn to properly and effectively use their iron sights. But once that's done, the advantages of a good optic can't be denied.

Do you remember off hand what size is needed for the sights? I'm not sure what barrel size is right and I don't want to get the wrong ones by accident.

I put one of the Williams WGRS-54 receiver sights on my Marlin 25N, and I love it. It's quite compact and doesn't add any bulk to the sides of the receiver because it attaches to the 3/8" rail on the top of the receiver. It did require that I use a taller front sight blade, and it took a bit of hand-fitting to mate it to my rifle's rail. But all in all, I am more than pleased with the result, especially for less than $40.
