Iron Sights

I keep my CZ 452 in iron sights to shoot fair against my girl and her vintage Remington Targetmaster. Good times!

Yes, Tenguns. CZ tangent open sights are awesome.

I recently tried the #1 spring from an old Brooks Trigger Kit in the CZ 452 Trainer (it was the only spring remaining of the original four springs). It yielded an 11 to 14 oz pull. I decided it was simply too light for my taste plus the rifle was occasionally failing to cock while cycling.

I was thinking about options this past Monday and decided to line up a collection of four old factory CZ Springs. This particular Trainer's factory spring yielded a 3 lb 9 oz pull even on its lightest tension spring nut setting. I find that too heavy for best shooting. Side by side this particular factory spring was noticeably longer than the others.

What I really like for a sporter intended for open sight shooting is around a 2.5 lb pull. When lined up side by side, one of the factory springs was shorter than the others. I removed the Brooks #1 spring and installed the shortest factory spring. The Lyman Trigger Gauge gave me six readings that ran between 2 lbs 11 ozs and 2 lbs 14 ozs. There is no creep, 50 cyclings with Pachmayr orange plastic dummy rounds yielded no failures to cock, and I feel more secure with this weight. I was considering clipping a coil from one of the factory springs, but now I don't have to.

When reassembling the rifle, I put 24 inch pounds on the rear screw and 18 on the front screw.

On the 21st, I fired several open sighted groups from the bench – below is the best. There was some wind, so I left well enough alone at that point. You can start chasing your tail with the CZ tangent sights if you are not careful.

I love these old 50-foot pistol targets for shooting with open sights at 50 yards. A few years ago, an old bullseye shooter (he shot on the AMU or its equivalent back in the 50s and early 60s) gave me a couple of hundred of these yellowing targets from his garage.
