My dad bought a Kahr PM9 not too long ago for CCW, and while he loves 99% of the gun, the chunky, sharp-edged slide stop is beginning to bug him. He's not at all interested in ordering Kahr's (rather expensive for what you get) concealed carry modifications in order to get a beveled slide stop on a gun which is obviously intended for concealed carry and thus should have been so equipped from the very beginning.

That being said, does anyone here know of any aftermarket slide stops out there for the PM9 that are smoother and a little bit more low profile than the stock slide stop? A quick search on Google didn't exactly turn up much...

Hi. I own a pm9, and i know exactly what you mean about the sharp edged slide stop. I havn't gotten around to it, but i have seen others who have beveled the slide stop themselves. Just buy a good file, some very fine grit sand paper, and just lightly and slowly round the corners off and take the edge off of the sides. You can use the fine grit sand paper to wet sand it and polish it up a little bit to remove any roughness that the file left behind.

As far as lower profile slide stops for the pm9 go, how old is your fathers pm9? What does the serial number start with? When they first came out with the pm9's, they had a slide stop with a rotating pin, then i believe they updated the slide stop to a stationary non-rotating pin. I know that Kahr released a "low" profile slide stop, and it's either the newer one with the non-rotating pin, or it's another design all together. You may be able to order the lower profile one from kahr if the gun doesn't already have it.

That sharp, excessively protruberant slide stop is my only beef with my own PM9. I can keep my thumb out of the way of it when shooting by adjusting my grip, but I cannot avoid getting gouged when I manually lock the slide open. I see no reason why the external corners could not be radiused and polished, and even the outside of the rear section thinned down a little. I would not recommend taking any metal off the front portion where the shaft attaches, as this part is stressed when the barrel cams up and down. I only haven't done it because any attempt I made would look like crap. ;)

The Lone Haranguer: Yeah, thats pretty much the reason i "havn't gotten around to it yet", because i am a perfectionist, and want it to look very nice, like factory. Thats why i suggested to go very slow with it, so you can be in control and not shave too much off. Unfortunately, aside from being a perfectionist, i am also pretty poor and cheap, so bringing it to a gunsmith is out of the question to me :D

I've always wondered the same thing. For such a thin gun, that slide stop adds significant width. That's the only thing I didn't like about my PM9.

For summer, I now carry a Kel-Tec PF-9 that has a nice tiny unobtrusive slide stop lever making it easier and more comfortable to carry than the Kahr, IMO.
