So, I just picked up a lightly used MkIII Hi-Power. I'm going to bob the hammer, put thin grips on it, and then shoot it a lot

One issue though. Someone previously removed the right-side safety lever to accommodate the grips they were using. I have the lever but need the little roll pin to secure it. I know that I can order it from Brownell's or wherever BUT - does anyone know the diameter and length of the pin? I'm thinking I might find something faster at the hardware store.

Thanks!

The roll pin is smaller than most hardware store assortments have. Length is no problem if you find the right diameter. Roll pins can be cut easily with good side cutters and filed smooth. I don't have my HP handy to measure but I think it is less then 1/16" diameter. See of you can combine your pin with other orders from Brownells to spread the shipping. Or, better yet find a friend who is an Edge member (free shipping).

If you have a set of drill bits, try sticking them in the holes in the safety lever until you find one that hopefully fits snug. If one fits snug, you can cut it off and use it for a roll pin. If the hole is some in between size then, sorry.

OP, you should acquire the correct roll pin by whatever means work best for you. Using a drill bit as a roll pin is a bad idea and perhaps the worst substitute you could find. Drill bits are hard and brittle, the opposite of what you want in a roll pin. Roll pins are designed to fit tightly and securely into their positions by virtue of their slightly springy design. Do yourself a favor and get an appropriate roll pin.

Can't you just take the lever that is not on the gu to the hardware store and find the right sized roll pin that way?

I don't know what kind of drill bits you might be using but I replaced broken roll pins in both my Colt Trooper Mk.III and Gold Cup with cut down drill bits and they worked out just fine; much better in fact than the factory originals.
