BHP versus 9mm 1911?

YMMW but they are what they are...

BHP

Pro: 15 rounds, with slim grips fits my hand as good as a 1911.
Con: Trigger needs work but can be close to a 1911 if you play with it long enough

1911 -9mm
Pro: Sweet 1911 trigger perfect fit and balance
Con: 9 or 10 round mags, heavy if full size

I dont have a 9mm 1911 so I cant really say much about them but I sure do love my HP's...

Both wearing Houge monogrips feel about the same in my hand... that said the 1911 trigger is better, even with the magazine disconnector removed from the HP.

I'd prefer the BHP over a 9mm 1911 though.

Too bad FN never made a .45 cal "Hi-Power."

I think that's true but, I've never handled a BHP that had the kind of sweet trigger that is pretty easy to achieve with a 1911.

None of my 1911s had triggers as good as my BHPs (Some even with the mag disconnect in place, but I remove them anyway). I'm not talking about bargain basement 1911s, either... My point is that either can have a surprisingly crappy, or wonderfully sweet trigger. However, the BHP will never have the short reset and takeup that a 1911 can have.

To my hand, the BHP feels better, but the 1911 is a close second. Feel is the most important factor, obviously, but they share the same manual of arms... pick the one that feels better to you, shoot the hell out of it, and don't look back.

It's generally true that it takes a little work (~15 minute mag disconnect removal) to get the BHP to shine, and to many (especially in the 1911 crowd, it seems), it's not worth it to them... More BHPs for me, I guess. :)

My wife's BHP had the disconnector disconnected. And Jim Garthwaite sprinkled a little pixie dust on it, too.

I've seen some half-dozen + Garthwaite BHP's that the group owns. Other than a gritty Colt that left the shop during the strike, none were ever better than even the basic, bare bones 1911. The straight back, bow-design of the 1911 is what makes it so uniquely special.

The BHP does have a slimmer slide. And it points nice, too.

high power, if browning thought he had perfection with the 1911, why didnt he just chamber the 1911 in 9mm instead of create a whole new design for the round.

I think the French were asking for a different pistol and I believe Colt owned the 1911 patents.

I do like the HP take-down procedure much better than the 1911. You never see an HP with an "idiot" scratch.

I have both I like the lighter weight of the HP and it is also easier to disassemble and clean but you just cannot get that good trigger like you can with 1911 IMO
