I was thinking earlier today....

How does a big box store like Gander Mtn. or Wal-Mart do its FFLs. Is there one person there with the FFL that oversees all of the sales like at a regular gun store or does the store itself have the FFL?

If it is a person, I would think that would be pretty difficult given the turnover rate for some of those stores.

And, if it is the store itself, do they not have to turn in their 4473s to the ATF until they go out of business like a regular dealer? Would that be for an individual store or the chain?

Wal-Mart makes you take an online course to prove that you are competent to call the NICS hotline and read the customers answers from the 4473. Everyone in the sporting goods department and all store management must pass the corporate certification (cake).

Are the 4473s kept at each store or region or do they all go back to Arkansas. If a store closes, do their 4473s go to the ATF or does Wal-mart have to go out of business completely?

Kept on site for 10 years then destroyed. Shipped to ATF if unit closes or suffers a katrina like catastrophy. Transfer record of sales is retained by the store indefinetly.
