All of my bushmaster rifles are carbines so I have been looking into buying a new m16 type rifle. I have again flocked to bushmaster but the hefty price tag for the type of rifle I want turned me away. :banghead: I was just wondering if anyone here knows of a decent m16 type rifle that is say under 500-600 dollars. I am also considering used. I don't plan on seriously purchasing it until Christmas though so no hurry. :D Even if it is not chambered in .223 as long as it is similar to a m16 and is good for plinking and home defense.

edit: why am I still awake

I think a shotgun would be better for home defense, but thats my opinion.

You can build your own from parts for around $600, just look around.

Del-Ton 20" A2 kit = $455
Stag Arms lower from AIM Surplus = $99

That's under $600, and a good build with good components. About as cheap as you'll get unless you buy used.

Full assembled stag arms lower with A2 buttstock
199.99 plus transfer fee to your FFL - eaglefirearms.net

Rock River 20" A2 fully assembled upper with bolt carrier assembly -
399.99 from eaglefirearms.net

If they are having supply problems you should be able to find an upper somewhere for that price, DPMS makes a good upper as well. Brownells sells DPMS A2 uppers for 389.00 on discount if you have a C&R FFL.

30 round USGI mags for 15 dollars each from the same place.

That builds you a really nice rifle in the $650.00 ballpark for everything.

I'm want to build a dissapator flat top with an EOTech 511 and flip up co witnessed rear sights for my next rifle.
