I have a confession. I have to come out of the closet... I'm a Revolver fan.
Most revolvers don't do anything for me.
But some do. Medium to full sized revolvers, with 3 inch or shorter barrels... .41Magnum, .44 Special and .44 Magnum... even .357. I love them.
I only see them once in awhile... and the price is always staggering... but they make me drool.
Now, here is the funny thing... they also have to be blued or blackened... with large wood grips.

Revolvers that fit into this description... oh man.

Anyone else like these?
 
Yeppers, they are addictive. I've managed a 3" 24 and a 3" 624, and a 2 1/2" 686. I still lust after a 3 1/2" M27, but the prices on these have gone from staggering to stupifying...and I'm stupid enough to spend it, If I can get it together :banghead:
 
.41 Mag is FUN TO SHOOT, Ogre. I've got a 6" M57, and the thing is just a blast. Shoots flat all the way out to 100 yards. 175 Winchester silvertips, even though they're underpowered for .41 Mag, offer more than 600 foot pounds of energy and are a pussycat in the big heavy N-frame. One of these days I'm going to get it rebarreled to 4".

Be warned, though; .41 Mag ammo is EXPENSIVE. $25 a box sometimes. Best bet is Georgia Arms stuff, which is quality, cheap, and HOT.

Of course, the only .41 Smith makes anymore has an 8" barrel, so if you want a .41 you're in for some hunting.

Probably have an easier time finding a 3" .44 Magnum.

Next to 1911's, big revolvers are my favorites. Lately I have been finding some nice N-frames. Something about a hefty chunk of steel and wood that spits flame and lead.

Walosi - I found my first N-frame, a 3 1/2" M27 a few years back. Paid all of $200 for it. Of course, somewhere along the line someone parkerized it, but it's still a good gun. since then prices have gone up a bit. A BIG bit.
 
I bought a brand new 3 1/2" 27 in 1956. Had it for a year or so and traded it on a consecutive pair of 5". All have long since gone, either on stupid trades or "fits of poverty" as one poster put it. I have no hope of another matched pair, but I'd love to recoup the 3 1/2" before the boys start arguing over the rest of them.
 
Ah, so I am not completely nuts.

That's a nice looking SAA style gun. Very nice. But I'm not after a SAA style gun. I'm not yet ready to put on a wide brimmed cowboy hat... but I do wear the boots.
 
Yep, I like large revolvers now too.

When I was younger and more "tactical" it had to be semi-autos, preferably in a large caliber, and stainless.

Lately I've developed a real appreciation for revolvers. It used to be that it had to have a full underlug but now I can see the merits of just an extractor shroud. I prefer a 6 inch barrel but sometimes a 4 looks OK. The 8's are a little too much. Large frame 2in barrels look a bit unbalanced to me.

And yes it must have wood grips and be blued.

The Python has the look when it's blue and with target grips. Now if it was just a big-bore. I suppose I'll have to settle for a Smith 25-2 or -7

Every hombre needs him a cowboy shooter. It's a Ruger.. ya'll can hot rod it to bear whomping thor like thunderclaps or make it barely piddle over a steel plate.

Just admit you really really want the hat.


You'll have money left over to buy one. :D

Small Confession: I have a .357 Ruger snubby. It's blued, with wood grips.
This is an older Security Six. It's one of 3 guns that I never really talk about. Strong gun. Maybe not the strongest Ruger, but it's tough.
This has been the seed... The gateway drug.
I need more.

I need a big framed Snub in a heavy caliber. I would be willing to trade my Springfield Mini-XD for one. As much as I love the XD... You can see this addiction is a sickness... The desperation for the fix that drives one to commit regrettable acts.
 
I recently sold my BHP (here at THR) to pay for a 625-6 3". I shipped the cylinder to Clark for the .460 Rowland conversion two weeks ago. That seemed like a good option to me, adding a 3rd .45 acp to my family - and giving myself "magnum-like" capabilities in a snubbieesque package.
 
I know what you mean. I love Glocks and Colt SAAs, but another love is the big S&W revolver with short barrel.

In big bore, I don't think I'd care for a 3" magnum to shoot much, though. My favorite revolver is the 29 or 629 in 4". I shoot them a great deal, and even with my moderate magnum load, I don't think I'd be shooting as much if the barrel were 3".
 
Bought my 686 4" used, and will probably do the same for the 686 snubbie (S&W) Model 60 comes in 3", 66 F comp (damn expensive). Rugers are a good choice. I fired somone's four inch at the range recently -- beautiful experience....:D

Rugers are inexpensive too and available in three inch in stainless and blue.:D :D
 
One of the benefits of a 3" .44 maggie is that .44 Specials :D can be used. And about those old Ruger snubs, my old Speed Six is so sturdy & handy that I've never truly considered selling it..............
 
My only snubby big bore is a 3" 629. Very nice little gun. Perfect belt gun for rifle hunting. I got it at a very resonable price complete with a gorgeous lined El Paso Saddlery holster. I was hesitant about buying the gun, but when I saw the holster, it was a done deal.
I don't count the 4" as a snubby, but I have the 4" Model 29 also. That one is super accurate after a trip to Jack Weigand.
Oh, and of course the madatory 2+" Ruger SP-101. Everytime I come up with a new monster .357 load it always gets a try in the SP-101.
