Binocular recommendations?

My rule of thumb with optics is to get the best you can afford, but not necessarily the biggest you can afford.

I can think of no reason why you wouldn’t buy the Leupold BX-5 10x42 if you can get them at 55% off and your budget is $500ish.

10x50 might be better if you are going to be in one spot and can rest it on something, but 10x42 is a good balance of size and portability.

Hey guys....Thanks for helping me sort through some options. Went to the Bushnell Outlet and tried the Forge 15X-56mm and learned it is too much magnification, from which I would rarely benefit. But, did like the Forge Line. The Forge 10X 42mm will be my bino of choice. With tax my cost will be just over $300, which is 40% off MSRP. I could have had a much more expensive Leupold, but even though heavily discounted, would still have cost me another $200+. After looking at these (see link below)I can't imagine getting a better pair of binos for my use for the money. They are ruggedly constructed and the view is remarkably clear. I like the double hinge (front and back), which adds to the rugged construction. The world looks grand thru these binos.

What binos would be suitable as a short range spotting scope (under 200 yards)? Are there adapters to turn binos into freestanding optics?

Swift made some good binoculars. Not sure if they are still around or what they sell for now.
