17lbs 4oz, 11 1/4 inch beard and 1 1/4 inch spurs. Set up on a green patch where I have been seeing birds. No gobbles on the limb. About fly down time I yelped and within a minute heard wings flapping over my right shoulder. hens started sailing down into the patch. I had no idea they were roosted so close and it's a wonder I didn't spook them. About 7 hens hit the ground some in the patch and some short of it to my right. One walked past me no farther than 15 yards. Then two more birds sailed down into the patch and I saw both had nice beards. All of the hens and the two gobblers gathered up in the center of the green field about 70 yards away. I yelped to them and both of them broke into a strut but did not gobble. The hens started walking towards my end of the patch in a single file line and the two long beards followed in full strut. Shot the lead gobbler at 43 steps. Hevi-13 6's thumped him hard. Good to get it done today because I may not get to go again until next weekend.

That's awesome we'll be at it here in 2 weeks. Nice Eastern Bird is it cold there? Sometimes up here you can get right under them here when its cold they'll have their heads under their wings early. 40 yards I might have to try that HEVI shot.

Great to get one opening day. Good luck the rest of the way.

Shoot straight

Nice bird, congratulations.

I went to a public area this morning. No gobbles, no birds seen. When I left at 11:30, no birds had been killed.
Maybe tomorrow? We'll see.

Congrats.
I slipped a revolver on my belt and hopped on my Japanese horse and went to scout some birds this a.m. I saw 14 from a distance. Our season is still a month away.

Nice Bird!
