I have short fingers and have a hard time reaching the hammer w/o adjusting my grip on my Old Army. I'd really like a Bisley type hammer, but it seems, if I can find one, it will command a hefty price.

Is there anywhere to find a Bisley type hammer at a more reasonable price?

Indeed it is.
I was hoping that there was a Ruger hammer that would just drop in.

If there were an easy drop-in Bisely Hammer and trigger, then Dave Clement wouldn't have made the special run of custom hammers that AbitNutz bought one of.
The cost of the package was about $200 and shipping.
There was a thread at the time announcing about how to pre-order it:

Notice to Old Army Shooters

I have been contacted by several people wanting a Bisley hammer for these revolvers. I will make a limited run provided I can get orders for a minimum of 20 hammers. Due to the high cost of the stainless needed to make the parts, I will require a $50 deposit for each stainless hammer. I will begin taking orders immediately and go until Feb. 1, 2011 before beginning production. If not enough interest is shown I will return all deposits.
Available in the following configurations:
1- Standard style with Bisley spur compatible with standard gripframe and trigger. Blue $185 Stainless $215
2- Bisley style for use when installing a Bisley gripframe- hump added on back to fill slot in frame. Blue $195 Stainless $225
3- Bisley trigger compatible with NM Bisley gripframe and trigger return spring. These will be needed when ordering the preceeding hammer. Blue $50 Stainless $60

Here's the update with photos of the finished result:

Yes indeed. I have one on my 5-1/2" ROA with a Ron Power stainless billet Colt grip-frame. It will fit the standard ROA frame without needing the trigger.

You can also see it on one of the ROA's Duelist was using in his recent video's. I think the 7-1/2" had a Clement's Bisley on it.

As you can imagine, it is a quality piece. It lowers and widens the spur quite a bit so your hand doesn't have to change position to cock it. At least it did for me. have no idea if he has any left.

Oh, I almost forgot...the hammer is alternatively bright and satin. I find that on my bright SS 5-1/2" it looks better with surfaces all polished. It also cleans up much easier. Any unpolished surface seems to require scrubbing and with my preferred method of cleaning it in the dishwasher...

I did see that thread, and saw a response of someone having bought one elsewhere. At least that's how I took it. I've been known to misunderstand things from time to time. :uhoh:

I'd certainly like to send mine in to Clements for some of his fine tuning. But $ for me is hard to come by with so many things calling for my attention.

You didn't read wrong. Allan Harton in Texas did, maybe still does, Bisley hammers for the ROA. He did it by welding one up. I saw one and it looked OK to me. I have dealt with David Clements forever and he was fitting the Power Custom grip-frame at the same time. If Clements does it, I never have to worry about anything.

Impressive work done on that frame that blew up!
Thanks for posting, especially the article with a way to reach the fellow.
