Black bear urine?

I'd like to querry the board if possible on a technique. Here in Massachusetts we cannot use bait or dogs to hunt black bear. After reading the regulations I figured that we can use some lure but I don't believe it can be a food based lure such as anise oil.

I thought about making a drag and using some bear urine . Walk a mile or two through some good habitat and set it up below a treestand.

Any thoughts?

I don't know about the urine I guess you can try it. I have called in black bear using the same calls I use for cyotyes. But I am on the west coast and don't know if that makes a diffrents. I hunt and use the calls the same way as if I was hunting the dogs, just in a well known Bear area.

I'm not a bear hunter but they can also be called in with rabbit/fawn distress sounds, might be worth a shot.

Why not go salmon fishing in your hunting clothes?

Clean the fish, cook the fish, all in the clothes.

Seal them up in a plastic bag with a vacuum sealer, and break them out when you go bear hunting.

Then just hike where you want to go, maybe roll around on the trail a little.

Carry a .44 revolver with you...

we cant bait em here in nc but we can use dogs so were lucky

for still hunting in most states it legal to hunt a field like a harvested corn field thats my plan for this year
