I've just purchased a new Ruger SBH Hunter in 41mag and have a question about the cylinder lock up. When you open the loading gate the cylinder free spins as it's suppose to. When you close the loading gate the cylinder still spins. It doesn't lock until you back the hammer. It stay locked if you let the hammer down and rotates and locks as it is suppose to as you cock and release the hammer. Is this normal? None of the other BH's I have act this way. It locks up tight and timming is good. This is a Dist. Exclusive revolver and newer than my others. Is this normal now or do I have worries?

Read the manual first to see if it's a new feature, but I don't think so. Sounds like the loading gate plunger/spring is a bit sticky. Lube it and work it a few times to see if it rectifies itself. Might need lubed and blown out with air a few times to clear any debris.

I'd say you have worries. A Ruger should lock up as soon as the loading gate closes in the closest notch.

Took your advice and lubed and worked it some - works perfect now - Thanks. Seems like dummy me would thought to try that before I got all bent out of shape about it.
