I bought my Cabela's Hawkin Hunter Carbine years ago with hunting in mind, but since we really don't have what you could call a black powder season in Texas, and I never got to tote the gun to New Mexico, it's been fired at the range and that's about it. It has a 1:24 twist, shoots heavy conical hunting type bullets great. Those 385 grain 50 cal pills from Hornady look like they can do the job. 
So, I've been in this Type 2 public hunting program since it started. Well, I found one of the more remote east Texas WMAs on water, but only 3600 acres, has year around hog hunting with no limit, but restricted to archery, crossbow, shotgun, or black powder. Well, heck, guess what, I've been wanting to try that Hawkin for 15 years and now I have a good reason.
I always like to carry a handgun when hunting hogs even if I'm using a repeating rifle. So, I'll be packin' my Ruger Old Army since I'm restricted to BP guns. This should be a lot of fun! Not sure when I'm going to shag loose from here and get up there. Getting kinda busy with spring in the shop, but I plan to ride the GoldWing up there and stay a day or two and scout if nothing else, tote the guns around in the woods for fun. Reminds me, I need to do some repairs on the old pop up camper I drag with the Wing. I could run up there in may during squirrel season and check it out. That's possible. I can tote my Hawkin and my Contender with 10" .22 barrel and hunt squirrel while I check for hog areas and sign.
Man, I can't wait to get something in the sights of that smoke pole. I was all inspired to go to the range today and burn some charcoal, but a customer called and is going to be here at noon with parts I need to finish his bike. But, if I get his bike ready for him in short order, maybe I can make it to the range this afternoon before it gets to late.
