I’m thinking of getting my Colt Agent coated with this finish. I spoke to Walter birdsong and he seems very knowledgeable and helpful. Anyone have anyone here have any experience with this finish.

I live in Florida so I’m looking for a rust resistant finish since it’s a carry gun and being blued rust is a constant issue here. Thanks for any info.

Hi fellow Floridian :)
Yes, T-coating is effective for rust and is a very durable coating. You are not limited to black but it’s a good choice for a Colt Agent, IMO. Flat black, preferably. I have had a few T-coated handguns and one matt bead blasted blued. The bead blasted blue has held up really well-but I don’t carry it. The T-coated guns lived in the car until traded off or sold and did not rust but did scuff and one scratched pretty badly on a rough spot in the seat safe mount. At that time - about 2010 - the only way to repair a scratch is to strip and recoat. Check with your gunsmith to find out about fixing damage to the finish.
Hope this helps

I had a Kahr MK9 that had a factory Black T finish. I picked it up used from a LEO, it had some wear on the front of the slide which I think is acceptable for a 20 year old firearm that probably saw a decent amount of carry.

It didn't see much use for me, maybe a couple hours carry on the weekends. I never had an issue, but then again I've never had an issue with rust on any of my firearms (unless you count the time I carried my LCP with a worn finish wade fishing in a wet leather holster for about 8 hours). I eventually sold it, nothing against the finish I just didn't care for the gun as much as I thought I would. From the research I did at the time it seems the Black T finish is good stuff though.

I had a Non polished parked Colt Agent, the second of three I had Birdsong T finished. I had it from mid 80 s to mid 90 s and although it was shot alot, some with very hot LEO 110 grain loads early on and carried, it held up. The gun looked so good in late 90's Some body wanted it real bad and offered me more than I was in it totally and I found another new in box unpolished Colt Agent for half of what he paid me. It still looks good finish wise and the ex LEO regularly carries it !
