Howdy,

Picked up a 50th Anniversary Blackhawk in .357 today; have come across a few things on the web concerning the grip housing being different (steel vs aluminum) and I was wondering if replacement grips would be different?

My first single action, was looking for a "companion" for my Winchester Trapper in .357.

She's a beaut!

After a cursory glance it appears that the new flat tops got all steel grip frames.
Should still be the same pattern, just steel instead of aluminum.

All else being equal, I'd prefer the lighter frame. That's the point of the flat tops wasn't it? Nice smaller handy pistol?

Regardless, should make a great companion to your winny

the grip should be the same as the new vaquero. that grip frame is steel and smaller and narrower than the regular blackhawk grip frame.

Nice. Looks like mine. I bought a 9mm/.357 convertible a while back and it's becoming my favorite plinker with the 9mm cylinder. It's WAY more accurate than I was expecting.

Mine came with a nice wood grip. I don't think I'm even interested in a new grip. I could try the grips off my other .357 Blackhawk or my .45 if someone else doesn't have the answer. I'll check the thread later and see.

For my Blackhawk .44 Special Flattop I bought a pair of Rosewood grips from Ruger then later added a set of Holly wood grips for a slightly more elegant look.

The black "cheese-grater" grips are tolerable in the .357 50th Anniversary, but are brutal on the .44 Mag 50th Anniversary. I always wanted to order sets from CLC, but with the guy retiring and other opportunities always coming up, I never did. Maybe soon.

For whatever its worth, the grip profile of the new Flat Top Blackhawks is the same as the XR-3 grip frame of the original Ruger Blackhawks, and they are of steel.

Grips are not interchangable with the original due to different locating pin locations. Nor are they interchangable with standard Blackhawk grip frames.

Incidentally, my Flat Top came with stainless steel hammer and trigger. I located carbon steel parts from a Blackhawk and replaced the stainless parts.

No real reason, other than that is just what I wanted.

I bet the original grips (cheese grater) would be "uncomfortable" in .44...

Ordered some Buffalo Bore hardcast just to try them out; the bears here don't to be very ambitious.

Love the "Anniversary Model" Flattop. When I got into cowboy action shooting almost six years ago, CDNN was blowing these out for something like $370 each. I opted for New Vaqueros at the time and still like them, but I regret missing out on that deal.

Looks like you scored a "like new" example. Good find.

Ordered a set of walnut grips from Altamont. Excited to see how they look.

Can anyone recommend a place to find a quality, utility (not hand tooled, etc) leather, made in the US cartridge belt/holster set up? Feel like she deserves something better than the Uncle Mike's Sidekick I picked up.

Thanks in advance.

I bought a DeSantis Desperado holster and gun belt for my Beretta Stampede a few years ago for less than $200. The price has probably gone up since then but it's worth checking out as it's a decent rig for the money.
