I have a handful of Ruger Blackhawk revolvers in various calibers. I bought a couple of them new, but most were used when I bought them. A couple of the used revolvers have obviously had some work done to improve the trigger, resulting in an excellent, crisp release.

Some of the others have a fair bit of creep, especially one of the newer-made ones.

So what are the options to improve the trigger pull, especially as it relates to trigger creep? I know the trick to unhook one leg of the trigger return spring from its peg. Beyond that, what spring replacement kits are recommended? And in the case of trigger creep, what's the best approach?

Most of the creep removal will depend on the depth of the hammer full cock notch and the exact angle on the nose of the sear. Reducing the hammer full cock notch is pretty straight forward but I would not try to adjust the sear angle without the proper jig and some detailed knowledge. Also know that Ruger will not sell you a hammer or sear if you mess it up. There are a few other sources for them but keep in mind that Ruger will only take your gun back for repair and they will return it to factory specs. Unhooking a leg from the trigger spring is a complete waste of time and can cause other issues. Don't do it. Single action revolvers by nature have very slow lock times and lightening the springs will make them even slower and a very nice pull weight can be had using the stock Ruger springs. When I did SA work I would advise customers to buy extra power springs to speed up lock time and ensure a good solid hit to any brand of primer. All of my single action Rugers have heavy hammer springs in them.
