has anybody tried this yet? what is it supposed to do that the other bp subs can not? and why the heck is it so expensive!? it sounds to me, from what little i have read, that it is just cleaner/non-corrosive. i guess if that is all there is to it, i can clean my rifle like i was. its not that big of a deal. is it going to set the bp world on fire!?

To me it just sounds like another company trying to make a buck. There have been a few others. out there. Most people stick with Either Goex, or Swiss for real stuff. Or triple 777, or pyrodex for subs. For the most part some people use the subs when BP is not available. Which is happening a lot lately. Thank god i have BP available in my area. Especially with the prices of triple 777, pyrodex at almost double the price of goex in my area.

Why 209?

Is it supposed to be ignited with 209 shotshell primers?

Just wondering, because many of these modern in-lines have labeled as "209".

209?

I would say it is meant to be used with inline and 209 primers. There is no substitution for BP. I have hunted in area where you can only use muzzleloaders and you can hear the lag in shots and misfire from all the subs. BP is dirty and no way around it. It will always fire. I trust my life to loaded Remington 1858 in my sock drawer. I know it will fire.

Yes it is going to change the BP subs world entirely,

It does not soak moisture from the air, no crud ring, not corrosive, long long shelf life, can shoot all day without cleaning and creates more velocity at less pressure than T7, I know after all the promises from BP subs of the past everyone will say, yea right. Well wait and see then.

My shooting consists of a 45 Omega with 120 gr loads using the 200 SST. Velocitys over 2400 and sub moa accuracy. 2" high at 100 yds equated to 2" low at 200.

Shot over 35 shots first session without cleaning, when we got it home a couple of Hoppes 9 patches and it was clean.

Again wait and see. Oh yea the best part, NO MORE STUCK BREECH PLUGS.

it does make a lot of promises, but talk is cheap. and advertising campaign are always over the top. i am a bit of a skeptic, so i think i am going to wait and see. maybe they will start a ad campign where they will send you a free sample to see if you like it. i know, i am dreaming. it seems like the least they could do is offer a small trial size that would be inexpensive to try. that way none of us would be on the hook with a bunch of powder that we do not like. if it is as good as it says, then it may be worth the extra price.

thats kinda like trying to design a new fork and telling everyone to get rid of their forks and buy theres. Too many people are used to shooting what they have. Same time most of us are happy with the results and accept the price. Those of us who are not are making there own. Sadly i imagine the only shooters that will be purchasing this new powder. will be new shooters or shooters who are not happy with their current results. So like inventing the fork. Coming out with a new black powder when black powder like the fork have been around for thousands of years is going to be a hard sale. Im not looking at throwing away all my forks. Im not looking to change powders either.

AS I said most will overlook this just due to the BP subs of past.

Western Powders is a top notch powder company and will not stake reputation on a bunch of hogwash in advertising.

Just wait and see, go to Midway and look at the reviews.

AND by the way the range session I posted above was not just imagined, this the the FIRST time I have ever had breech plugs remove this easily, just as they do from my Savage Smokeless ML.

35 shots NO swabs, spit patches or ANY change in loading pressure to seat a bullet, now explain to me ANY BP sub that can do this. Take scales and test loading pressure as I did, you will be surprised.

Savage Shooter is a new member with all but 2 posts and both are to hype the new powder......strange.......

Sorry for being the new guy but

a member has of 70 something posts (so must be a expert) but a member that

2700+ must be dang near the best, I know I am impressed.

I take all I read with a grain of salt too.

Sitting in front of the monitor and running up post totals does not an expert make.

"Kinda Strange" thing is I have NO affiliation with any business that is firearms related. I guess I had only hoped to be welcomed here and let shooters know if maybe a new product was worth trying.

There are very few weekends that I am not shooting paper or game. Either my Savage smokeless ML-II or

the CZ American 17hm2 or

the 700 Sendero custom 7 STW

the Savage 16 FSS 7 WSM.

I spend a lot of time shooting, reloading and working on guns. It is not often I see something new in the arena that really brings new capability but BH 209 does just that for some inlines.

OH, and pardon me for being offended because I really have no right, since I am new here and this is like my 3rd post (how many does it take, guess I should have read the stickies better at the top).

I merely stated range results that impressed ME. Moooose102 asked if anybody had tried BH 209, so I posted, I will not post about something I know nothing about unless to courteously ask a question.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Best disregards!:banghead:

209 Shotgun Primer Ignition

They mentioned that it was engineered for modern inline M.L. using 209 ignition right on the website. I am curious if it will perform well at all with percusion caps. I have little doubt that it will perform well in a modern inline with a 209 shotgun shell primer. If they keep making progress in this area who knows......they just might invent smokeless powder:neener:

It's an old engineering conundrum: Do you match the fuel to the ignition system, or tailor the ignition system to fit the fuel?

Both approaches work, although you get very different results.

I'm interested in both the processes and the product. I like traditional approaches, but the alternatives are at least as fascinating.

I say, bring on the new powders, pellets, igniters, or whatever! Judge them on their own merits and flaws, not on the traditions that they break!

Traditions get stronger that way.
