Primer as in a book/resource, not priming powder.

A while back my wife bought me a Brown Bess replica, and to my chagrin I have never gotten around to firing it. This is my first blackpowder firearm, so I'm looking for a good book or web resource that will go over the basics. You know, what to do, what not to do, how to not blow yourself up, etc.

For instance, I got the ABCs of Reloading when I first got my reloading setup. I'm looking for the functional equivalent for blackpowder.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

In a flitlock give up, Black Powder is the only way. Pyrodex and others are not flintlock friendly.

Sam Fadala.

Pick up darn near any ML book by Mr. Fadala and sit down for a good read. Lots of condensed information that takes most folks years to learn on their own. Some things that seems counter-intuitive work and he explains some of them.

For a rock lock, take Gezzer's advice and stay away from the fake propellants. They are misery and heartbreak in a flint.

I use a .36 flintlock for tree rats and will warn you: They are habit forming.

*laughs*

no no, you misunderstand. I'm looking for the functional equivalent of The ABCs of Reloading, an introductory book/resource for reloading, for blackpowder shooting.

I have no desire to use pyrodex. ;)
