So, we went to an auction today because there were reloading supplies listed. I managed to buy about $400-$500 worth of premium bullets for $75. But the big news was, there were a few boxes of books there, and I pulled one book out of one and it looked familiar, so I asked if they would sell one book separately. They wouldn't, so I bought the whole box for $25 (I would have paid that much or more for the one book).
Anyway, my dad shot this buck in 1958 near Cortez CO, in the northeast corner of the state. About 1964, someone saw it hanging in my granddad's garage, and told him he should have it measured by Boone & Crockett. He did, and it would have been in 4th place overall in 1958. The author of the book contacted dad in the 1990s, and interviewed him and published this in the book.
Dad was hunting with his parents, my uncle Bill, and his long time hunting partner, Bill Strait. All are deceased now, with dad having passed in 2008. My most exciting find at an auction for a long time!
