Blazer 9mm ammo in a PT1911 - ALL split cases?

I have a PT1911 in 9mm.

I just got back from the range and noticed that all of my Blazer aluminum cases had radically split, yet the steel and brass cases had not. I know aluminum is not the best material for ammo, but the cracks (along with what looks like a "laser" burn-through near the bottom of the cracks) seems a bit radical.

Is all Blazer ammo this fragile?

Are you re-loading aluminum or are these new? I have seen a few bad cases from bullet seating from blazer but never a once fired split this bad.

No Mike, I don't reload; I posted the question here because I felt reloaders would have the most in-depth info on these matters.

I have never seen the aluminum cases split like that when fired for a normal 9mm chamber. Looking at the brass case, it looks like the chamber may be sufficiently large enough to allow the aluminum case to expand beyound its strength to hold together. I would not use them any more.

Maybe one of those intrepid souls who loads aluminum ran those to death.

The way those failed, not just the fact they failed, and the look like the case head is close to going, is exactly why aluminum isn't ideal for reloading.

Yeah that is scary for new cases. I got away from the aluminum even before I started reloading. I found brass PMC, and white box to be just a bit more expensive but much better made. I would have to agree your chamber must be fairly large to allow for that much expansion.

That almost looks like inter granular corrosion. And some electrolysis going on too.

Strange, looking. were this picked up off the ground? If so may have some stray currents going on.

Interesting thought, but reloaders don't reload aluminum cases.

Those are bizarre results. Is the chamber in spec?

I got some cheap wolf .40sw ammo I think it was aluminum 1 out of 5 was doing that I got rid of the ammo it was factory ammo just real bad stuff. this was about 7-8 years ago I have not bought wolf pistol ammo since that stuff. (well I did get alot of 7.62x39 but that worked fine)
