I recently bought a Glock 17 and joined the forum here. I have been developing a load to shoot accurately out of my Glock 17 9mm. With ammo being scarse around here and I imagine anywhere, I decided to get some dies and load some. I have not found a load yet that I am happy with. The grouping isn't tight at all. I am currently using 115 grain Hornady HP/XTP bullets on top of 5.8 grains of Unique Powder. On the other hand, when shooting Blazer Brass or Blazer (aluminum case) my Glock shoots deadly accurately making nothing but ragged holes. Does anyone know what load would be equivalent to the Blazer factory ammo Im using? In "Pet Loads," reloading manual the author usually list some powder, bullet combinations for each caliber that is the same as the factory load. Help me out here fellas. Thank you

What kind of bullets are you using?

Knowing the bullet type & weight you have would be most necessary before anyone could possibly recommend a load.

In general though, a 115 or 124 grain jacketed bullet loaded to factory velocity should shoot as well as factory loads.

The current bullet I am using is 115 grain Hornady HP/XTP . I have been trying Unique Powder.

I'd try 5.8 to 6.0 grains Unique, seated to 1.050" OAL., after working my way up to it.

It should shoot as well or better then any factory load.
The XTP is a very accurate bullet.

I use the same bullet with 6.0 grains Unique in a S&W and a SIG.
Both give excellent power & accuracy.

I don't know how you develop your loads. But I develop mine in groups of 4 or 5 in increments of .1 or .2 grains each. For instance "if" the Hornady manual says that 6 grns of Unique is the max load for a 115 grain XTP, I'd probably start at 5.4 grns and work up 4 loads of 5 rounds each. 6.0, 5.8, 5.6, 5.4. I usually find an accurate load in that mix that cycles reliably. Also, I size pistol rounds to the suggested OAL and for purposes of load development, I weigh each charge.

You should not have a problem with the XTP

Whitey: I use the same Hornady 115gr XTP bullet and Unique in both my Browning HP and Sig 226 and both pistols shoot more accurately than I can hold them. As Rcmodel stated vary your charges and OAL, and give your case mouth just "a kiss of crimp". With a little work you will have an excellent shooting load. :)

what overall length are you loading the cartridges to? Have you tried varying the OAL? I load 9mm to about 1.130. I'm not using your powder or bullet combo...

Are you saving any money using that bullet? Seems to me that bullet is expensive for a target load...?

I just received my 1000 Hornady XTP's and haven't worked up my loads yet.
What I've found with my M&P 9 pro is with the bullets I'm shooting now the pattern will open up if I push the charge too much. I found 5.4 grains of Unique and 115 gr Berrys to be the ticket. 5.2 grains is accurate but 5.3 grains are not. Go figure! I load to 1.135 col.
Maybe this is just with Berrys bullets cause the same happens with my 357 magnum and light loads.
I start low and don't overlook a lesser charge of powder when looking for the perfect load.
Good luck, let us know what works!

I've been working up some loads for my 17 over the past year and would like to pass on some things I've come up with.

On 115 gr bullets tightgroup, WSF are excellent powders. I had a similar experience with unique. Makes a good plinking round but isn't as accurate as the factory loads. V340 is also a very clean powder.

Accuracy will differ with different primers and OAL. Try all primers for the best combination. Watch OAL for pressure jumping.

I've got the best accuracy on most loads on the higher end of the suggested range. Powderpuff loads are there but are for different applications.

Enjoy the search for the perfect load!

I don't use much Unique but the following loads all do well in my Glock 9MM's with the 115 grain XTP @ 1.08 OAL/.377 crimp. Each of the below load ranges (my favorites in parenthesis) will equal or better factory loaded ammunition in my guns.

4.8/5.0 grains VV N-330 (4.8)
5.7/6.1 grains VV 3-N-37 (6.1)
5.3/5.5 grains WSF (5.3)
6.0/6.4 grains Power Pistol (6.2)
5.4/5.9 grains Silhouette (5.9)

I am a big fan of Titegroup and AA5, both with 115 fmj. I tend to seat them long, basing the length on what will fit in all of the mags I am using. But, being an IDPA shooter, I am more concerned with function rather than worrying about small groups from my G34 or M&P Pro.

I'll second N330 and WSF, as well as AA #5. Those XTP's are good bullets. I doubt they are the problem.
