First let me say that I'm fairly new to 1911s, I just shot my first one about 6 months ago and only own a couple, so if this is a beginner question I apologize.

I took a gov't sized Kimber (series 1) to the range the other day. I started off with some Wolf 230 grain FMJ, about 100 rounds without a problem. I then tried out 2 mags full of Speer Gold and they worked fine as well.

Then I tried some Blazer brass 230 grain FMJ. After pulling the trigger I could actually feel the slide slowing down on its way forward, as if it were having trouble picking up the next round. The round did chamber, but I wanted to make sure nothing was wrong so I dropped the mag and cleared the round from the chamber to give the gun a quick inspection and everything looked fine. I tried again with the same results: the slide just seemed slow. With the other brands of ammo everything was smooth, but this just seemed a little jerky.

I switched mags and the same thing kept happening, so I switched back to Wolf . . . the problem went away and everything was smooth again.

I then tried the Blazer Brass in my 4" Kimber, and it worked fine in that gun, no jerkiness at all.

So my question is: is this a sign that I need to change springs or anything on the first gun, or just not use that specific brand of ammo in it, or what? There were never any failures of any kind, the gun kept working, it just felt strange.

Any advice is much appreciated.

thanks,
adrien

Don't know what it is about folks and Blazer ammo. I don't doubt for a moment your experiences and feelings with the ammo in your gun. But, for the record, I have shot literally thousands of rounds of Blazer ammo through a variety of guns and have never (I mean never ) had a problem. If your gun is functioning properly with Blazer ammo then that is all that counts. :)

I have run two cases of Blazer Brass 9mm through my Para 18.9 LDA, Glock 34 and Beretta Elite with 100% reliability. My advice would be to junk the Kimber and get a Para. :neener:

Only kidding! :D

I guess I should carify, I'm not knocking the blazer ammo. I've put tons of it through my SIGs with no problem, and as I mentioned it worked fine in my 4" Kimber, so I don't think it was a bad batch of ammo or anything.

I guess what I'm really asking is if ammo A and B work fine and ammo C seems to feed a little slower than A and B

1) is there any good reason for this happening related to the ammo?
2) is there any good reason for this happening related to the gun?

I know the easy answer is just to not use ammo C any more in that specific gun, but I was hoping to find out what the cause may be.

Does the overall length of the Blazer cartridge appear to be the same as the other brands? Try removing your pistol`s barrel and dropping a loaded round into the chamber, and see how easily it chambers. It sounds as if the Blazer ammo has a different dimention, either in girth or length.
