I haven't seen h335 in a year, but I scored two lbs of blc2. What do you guys normally work up to for best accuracy with a 55grain fmj through an ar15 with 1:8 twist? It looks like a slow powder requiring 10% more charge to get the same bang as h335. The upside to that is that you can get 3300fps without exceeding the sammi limits for the case. I normally load h335 to get 2800fps.

Best blc2 loads anyone?

Thanks,
Edfardos

I had good luck with 26.7 with 55 gr FMJs, 25.5 with some Privi 62 FMJs.
I could probably have went a little higher but quit there since I was loading "blasting ammo" and not weighing every charge. (like to have a little cushion)
Meters great thru my Lee disk. (double disk kit needed) Both of those were right in the middle of the load range.

I could not find any more BLC(2) so I ended up getting some H335.
Favorite load for it with 55s? (turn around should be fair play even if it is off thread :) )

If I couldn't get any H335 I would for sure use BL-C(2). IMO it's a very close 2nd choice for the .223 and a good choice at that.

Under a 55gr FMJ bullet I usually charge 25.0gr H335 and back a few years when I did use BL-C(2) under the same bullet I charged 27.0gr BL-C(2) with very similar results.

25 gr of ball c(1) is the lightest load that will reliably cycle mine with 55 gr bullets. Ball C (1) is almost identical to your C(2).

Check the Hodgdon site, BL-2C is a great powder for this purpose, and 308 as well. Like 748, I believe it is similar or just like military powders for .223. A police officer friend of mine maintains he has won more matches with BL-2c than any other powder, fwtw.

Cool, thanks for the info guys. I'll work from 25.5 to 27, and see what the chrono says. Speer data says mag primers since this is ball powder. I'm assuming CCI mag or #42 primers won't show pressure signs in this range? I'd like to avoid soot, while at the same time not tax this brass too hard, hoping to get seven reloads from my commercial brass.

Thanks again,

Edfardos

I used some CCI 400s with no problems before I changed to the Tula .223 (Mag) primers to maybe be safer slam fire wise. But all my shooting with BLC(2) has been in warm temperatures. (did I mention 105 is warm......:fire:)

cci400's result in a 1% slamfire rate in my ar15. so it's cci450 or cci#41 for me, luckily that's just what the BLC2 ordered.

No problems here with SRP in CCI and Winchester, if really worried use CCI #41 Mag primers really not needed, I would watch near max loads if using them.

Where are you all located? In F'ed up California I can find that powder in 2 lgs. Lately I'm surprised at the availability of powder. Bulk bullets, not so much but I can find them with free shipping and no tax.

27.0gr BLC2, CCI SRM primer with 55gr VNE JHP @ 2.230" gave 2,883 fps from 16" carbine.
My 20" PSA 1:7 SS barrel loves it, sub-MOA @ 26.8gr.

My BLC-2 loads have been slower compared to W748 and TAC & AA2230, but decent accuracy. Some say it is very temp sensitive, but I haven't had any significant issues with it. It wouldn't be in my top 3 223 powders, but in these times, not a bad choice.

Captmoto, I'm in the Sacramento area, which includes reno which includes Cabellas and Scheels. All wiped out. Visited 4 LGS yesterday. One had 2lbs of blc2, thus this thread.

Bulk bullets are easy. xtreme makes 223 again.

Test rounds loaded 25.5 to 27. Chrony found, just need to drive up to the woods and test.

Hi,

According to my notes, I'm not done working up this load.

I started at 25gr and ended up with 26gr of BLC-2 the last time out with the Xtreme 55gr fmj-bt bullets, which cycled my AR fine and was pretty easy on the brass.

I need to work up a bit more to see if accuracy improves.

The data came from the Hornady Handbook 9th Edition, using the data for Hornady's 55gr fmj-bt page 152.

Looking forward to hearing how your loads work out.

I have been using AA 2230 powder until I couldn't get it anymore, so I did find some BLC-2, but haven't used it yet. Anxious to give it a shot.

27.5 grns BL-C(2) under a 55 grain SP yielded consistent one to one and a quarter in groups at 100 yds irons in an 183- series mini-14 for us. When we still had young eyes.
