Blowing up an AK, for fun.

Dang it. Every time I see a vid like this I want to go buy another AK. Stop making this kind of video. I want to spend money on something other than guns for awhile. Ammo or something.

I wish I had tried a "cleaning rod left in the barrel" shot..... that would have been interesting.
Honestly I doubt it would have been as bad as the garden stake test...only one way to tell for sure...

Or the classic "bore sighter left in the barrel" trick. From the looks of this though it probably would of been fairly uneventful.

So wait, let me get this straight. The barrel is actually shredded from being fired while shoved in the dirt, but you can still hammer the bolt open, shove a round in there and fire one off? And have a fully functioning rifle again with a couple hours of work?

This is ridiculous. I knew AKs are the most durable of all but honestly this level of abuse is just jaw dropping.

Pretty much. It closes readily but you have to wack it with something in order to get it open

And have a fully functioning rifle again with a couple hours of work?

Yup, with the proviso that you had the sub assemblies lying around....

If an individual was desperate enough you could wack off the barrel in front of the forearm, and have a very short, very loud straight pull.

Why did you want to destroy this rifle anyhow?
I've had some guns that were frustrating, but I don't think I ever had one that I just gave up on to the point that I'd have decided to just destroy it.

And FWIW, I wouldn't be surprised if an AR took a hell of a lot more abuse than you might think. Who knows if it would have been as durable as this AK, but I'm guessing this AK also had something wrong with it in the first place... because who blows up a perfectly useable rifle? (But I have been wrong before.)

One would think so if it hadn't already eaten 6 cases full of blue dot, one case full of titegroup and a case full of triple 7.
Managed to bend the piston but its still working.

I wonder if you could get it to run on 30gr of Goex? hmmm...

FWIW, I ran some comparisons on Quickload. Assuming 105% case fill, the loads of Titegroup and Blue Dot were 181800 and 93500 psi, respectively. If you had done the Bullseye, it would have been 121000 psi.

The absolute worst looks like Accurate #5 at 311000 psi.

So what you gonna do with the AK now?
Sell it on Guns America... I can see the ad now.

For sale
Like new WASR 10. This is one of the few WASR 10's to come in the country that was built by the master Romanian gun smith Georgeta Muninko. This rifle has been fired only 3 times for a Youtube review video and exhibited amazing accuracy and reliability. Very well maintained and never fired with corrosive ammo. This is one of a kind! Own a piece of Romanian history!

Well If I were to destroy one I would just have it call my wife to tell her it'd be right home for dinner but instead send it off to sit in the bar all night and then call her for a ride.

I only had $125 in it and everything that could possibly be wrong with it was wrong with it.

Front sight cant to the right, badly drilled and offset rear sight block to the left, trunnion twisted to the left.

An AK with something wrong with it? Surely you cannot be serious! lol

Seriously though, that does kind of explain it. Thanks for sharing the results.

(Just cleaned) M16's jam on DUST in Iraq.

Seen it.

Fine dust will lock up an AK just as readily. Seen it.

I Doubt it... Particularely given the thread...

You will note that I provided some details...

Methinks you were just trying to be a smartass. Feel free to provide details IF real!

What details were those? You said you saw it, nothing else.

A little bit of sand or dust on an oily AK bolt (or in the recesses for the lugs)will keep it from going into battery. Its not some magic death machine. A little bit of grit in the right place will shut it down.

Sort of a related item, I/my wife have/has a little Chinese side folder that once ran out about 15 rounds before I could get it stopped, doubling uncontrollably in unintentional bump fire.

The culprit was a single grass seed under the disconnecter. Rifle had been tossed into the floorboards of my truck that morning and gotten a bit dusty.

First of all it was the form of your response.
OR:

You read this thread?

OR:
Because I remember reading about Col Hackathorn digging up that AK which had been burried for a year and it working.

Or me taking a bunch of Classes and in class after class seeing the AR guys cleaning their weapons at lunch and the AK guys (Of which I am one) leaving theirs alone... and then watching the AR's drop like flies, and the AK's keep right along.

Etc etc etc.

What details were those? You said you saw it, nothing else.
I think you need to brush up on your remedial reading comprehension.

I also provided location (Iraq)
Which (I hope) provides you with some knowledge of circumstance (War)
AND the Quality of the weapons (Issue Milspec)

I provided the Fact Shown in the 's that this was NOT an isolated incident

I also provided the fact that these weapons had just been cleaned.

See what reading comprehension can do for you!:D

It was identical to yours.

Barring corrosion why would a buried firearm NOT work?

Sam while a gun that goes full auto and won't stop shooting is a problem most of us would agree that it is slightly less of an issue than one that won't go bang when we need it to.

Just think tho, you ruined it for science but you coulda straightened it up with something like a nice sized hammer and a pipe wrench and had a perfectly fine gun.

Oh well I enjoyed seeing ya destroy it.

Get enough people to donate individual parts to blow up an AR. I'll throw in the fire control parts.
