Blue bulldog finish?

Anyone know what the "blue" finish is on the bulldog. Is it true blue or is it some kindof finish like a 442 has on its aluminum frame?

I ask because it looks flat black in photos and their website says it has a stainless frame. I didn't think stainless could be blued.

So I went and answered my own question by calling Charter Arms.

It’s NOT a blue finish. The nice woman I spoke to called it a black pasivate finish over the stainless frame.

From what I read online this pasivate coating should add an additional layer of protection to the gun.

But I'm no chemist.

Anyone know about how durable such a finish would be?
