I was thinking about making a hot blueing tank. What kind of steel should I use and would JB Weld be ok to do the seams with? I dont want to have to spend hundreds on a setup I will probably use only once in a blue moon. And where could I buy the hot blue solution?

JB weld will not take the temperature of a hot blue tank. The typical temp is 240F to 270F.

The best place, (and info resource) for bluing chemicals and equipment is Brownell's Gunsmith Supply.

They also sell less expensive tanks.
A budget tank for pistols is $26.00 and a budget rifle tank is $40.00.

I don't think there's much you could pick up or have made locally that would be cheaper.

For one thing, you have to be careful about what the tanks are made of, and any coatings or joining materials that might contaminate the solution.

don't forget the used stores, pawn shops ect. I have been doing home parkerizing for years and picked up all my tanks for long guns and handguns at the used stores. I was pretty fortunate to find a stainless steel tank for long gun which was less than $40! So it would not hurt to look.
