I just picked up a Model 29-3 with an 8 3/8 barrel. The action is excellent but there is some holster wear. The barrel is silver at the tip and has a long line on both sides about a 1/16 wide x 2"-3" long. I want to touch it up with Birchwood Casey bluing. I built a CVA 1851 Colt about 25 years ago and used Birchwood Casey with great results, it still looks good today. I don't expect a perfect match just blend in the light spots.

What should I do, leave it as is, or do want ever I want?

"I just picked up..."

Keep the gun as is for six months and then decide if you really need to "fix" that minor wear.

I know that the first tendency on buying a used gun is to "fix it up" to look better. Resist the tendency. Many a nice 98% collectors item has been reduced to a 20% shooter by folks "fixing up" their guns.

I'd just hit it with some Corrosion X and leave it a little worn unless you want to go ahead and get a full refinish done. Cold blue won't make it look new again, so the only benefit is keeping it from rusting.

If you want to have it look like new just out of the box, AND it only is the holster wear issue. pitting is variable that can get in the way.

There are smiths that can make it look that way,

I am one of them.

Pay me or someone like myself and end up with something that will cause friends and other shooters to drool and such..........

Or use cold blue and (maybe) ruin it forever!

I am in Tucson, AZ.
