Hey guys anyone know a good wild management area to go boar hunting in FL, or deer.

Well i was not exactly looking for a tour hunt, i was looking more for a wild management reserve where u go on your own. I heard that in northern florida there is wild management land that is on an old air force base that has good hunting but not sure exactly where and that is, it's also pretty far from me, i live in south FL.

Out of all the management areas I've been in in Fl, the only one I have actually seen hogs in during the season is Three Lakes. The main problem is most of the game goes on to private property adjacent to the management areas once the season starts.

Remember hog are considered private property if they happen to be on private land. One of the reasons they can be hunted year round on private property.

The Lightsey hunts aren't really a tour. They do put you up, feed you and take you around in their vehicles but you are expected to get out and do the stalk. Which can mean slogging thru some really nasty terrain! I look at it very much like an African hunt, only much shorter much cheaper and you can drive to it. I live in S. Fla too and it quite a bit of fun. If you want more info drop me a line.

This would be my first time hunting so i might just have to spend the money, and go on one of those guided hunts with a guide or something, as far as that reserve with the boars on it are there deer on there also if not do you know of any?

Three Lakes Wildlife Management area is in the same area as Lightsey (Kissimee). It does have quiet a few deer, but they are canny and go on the private property almost as soon as deer season starts. Doesn't mean you might not get lucky.

Lightsey does have exotic game, fallow deer, some goats. They used to have blackbuck antilope but I didn't see any the last time I was there. But they are MUCH more expensive. A trophy boar hunt, one with good teeth, runs around $490. They used to have a deal where for the same price you could get two meat hogs for the same price. Don't know if that's still going on tho.

Lightsey Cattle Co is not near kissimmee. The closest town is Lake Wales and that is not very close. The hunting part of the ranch is on a 5,000 acre island in the middle of LAKE KISSIMMIEE. The family puts on a very good hunt you will enjoy it very much. Also people in FL don't call it BOAR hunting we call it HOG hunting. Most places in FL have lots of hogs even the WMA.

Hogs. Yes, that is what we call them here in Florida. I'm a native, born and raised here in the Sunshine State.

Cary Lightsey makes a differance between "boar" hunts and meat hog hunts. He calls "boars" those hogs with at least 3 inch cutters. If you've read up on the Lightsey hunts they are indeed on Brahma Island located on, as I recall, Tiger lake. You and your vehicle get ferried out to the island. Way back in the 70's they used to fly you out. I know I did it. Back then they also had more exotics too, even a rhino.

And yes there are plenty of hogs in Fla, especially in the central part of the state on the WMA's. You just have to do your homework and scouting to see where you want to go and when. I've found the deer hunting is better in the north part of the state. Personally for deer I go out of state.

For hog tho, I think Florida can't be beat. I've hunted them with rifle, bow, handgun, spear and knife & dog(s), I love hog hunting.

As for Kissimee, my mistake, I was thinking of Yeehaw Junction, which is where I get off the turnpike to get there, fingers ran away with me while typing.:what:

I have no affiliation with the Lightsey's other than I've had several good hunts and good times there. I enjoy it and would like to pass that on. It's especially a good place for first timers, IMHO.

thanks for the info guys, well looks like there is no way around it i am going to have to shell out some money on one of those hunting ranches if i want to get into hunting, atleast for my first time out. I was kinda hoping that it could be more of a walk into the woods hang out for a couple of days and shoot me a hog, but i guess once i get more experience i could do that. Once again thanks guys
