Interested in finding out any info, on Wild boar hunting in Fl.
Have any of you fokes tryed it:confused: Where one can hunt. Cost?

Thanks.

For years I've gone to the Lightsey Cattle Co. They actually have an island (about 4000 acres) in Central Fla (Lake Wales area) called Brahma Island.

They put you up and feed you as well as guide and and clean the hogs for two day hunts. Very comfortable accomodations and great food! They have different price schdules, for example a trophy size hog with good teeth will run the same as two "meat" hogs.

They also have quite few exotics, like Angora goats, bison/buffalo and Lord knows what else. One time I went there they actually had a white rhino!

Here's a pic of me with one of the meat hogs from my last trip.

Thier web site is: http://www.lightseycattleco.com/

Lotta good hog hunting in Southern Georgia too. I hunted them when I was stationed there from 94-00. Was a blast. Expecially with a bow.

Hunted WMA's mostly for hogs. Alot of good ones out there full of them russian boars.

Everyone should experience hog hunting. :D

Hey that looks like fun! :) What kind of guns do folks usually hunt with on a trip like that? I saw a show on OLN where they were going at it with handguns.. that sounds like fun.

Am I the only one who likes the idea of going hunting, but wouldn't particularly want to bring home a mounted boars head? Thing is ugly as sin... Maybe they could just hold onto that for me.

There is really good hog hunting in Taylor, Dixie, Levy counties, on the Gulf coast, in North Florida.

If hunting on public land the cost is very reasonable.

I'll check some on the adds in the Woods and Water magazine and see if any guide services in that area have websites.

island

i was searching for the island where i dropped a exotic record catalina goat.... in 1984 i think..might have been 1982...anyways...went there a year or two before that with my father and brother...dad snagged a boar and my bro got a goat....i remember rolling in the back of a truck following the dogs...they came up on a boar and circled it...next guy up jumps in the middle with a revolver(my dad had a 44 magnum)they call the dogs off and it's you and the boar...drop him or .........just drop him.......the guys showed me the waiver form for anyone who wanted to go at the boar with a bowie knife...nobody was that brave or stupid enough in the truck i was in.....if this is the same place it's top notch...we were really taken care of.....great memories....if anyone reading this was there in the 1980's ..do you remember the guy nicknamed "Snake"?...he would catch rattlesnakes live....he told me he was a retired Atlanta Falcons player...anyways...whoever wants a good hunt....these guys did it right then..i imagine they still are.....

The hard part is finding a place they don't hunt only with dogs. Most of the places I've looked at only do dog hunts. Not that I have anything wrong with dog hunting, I just like to stalk it myself. So far I've only been hunting WMAs. Got a 109lb sow this year out of the Green Swamp, heard a 250lb boar was taken too. I am thinking about a hunt with these guys though, they do it "Safari style." Lots of exotics too. My wife said I can go on a Bison or Water Buffalo hunt if I save for it! She even said I could have it mounted and put it over the couch!!

North and east of Sebring are some large orange groves. Too many wild hogs in there are spreading out into the edges of town. Ask around politely and you'll receive permission. I did.

I hunt at night from a ladder type stand over corn bait. My 30-30 carbine loaded with 170 grain ammo gets the job done; I aim for the head.

I worked part time many years ago for lane & carry lightsey. they put on a great hunt. you will enjoy yourself

if you want to hunt boar...search in low-country south carolina....their a nuisance.....no hunting season.....kill em year round...the club i use to hunt at near coloumbia s.c. only allowed you to kill em' during deer season..out of deer season you could shoot em for meat...not for fun...hunt from deer stand....not much effort there....s.c. lets you bait deer...hogs like the bait too.....so anyways....find a private land owner in swampy land from Florida,Georgia,S.C.,N.C.......pick a state.....their everywhere.....we hunt deer hunt in Virginia now....boar ain't made it there yet....man i miss a hickory-smoked hog....anyways.....when i said no hunting season i meant every state....not native to the US...open game....i imagine each individual state has there own ordinance for such....as for myself...i've seen boar, hog, domestics and hybrids ......and their all tasty.....

florida hog hunting

you guys know of any hog hunting on public land in central florida?

All WMA's where deer are hunted should have hogs. IIRC you generally have to obey the same regs and season as for deer hunting (as opposed to private land, where about anything flies, year round).

Try Bull Creek WMA, Three Lakes WMA ot the Kissimmee PUA Chandler Slough west area all very good and have produced well for me and my hunting party. In Kissimmee PUA you can hunt hogs from archery all the way through the end of small game season which usually ends March, but no center fire rifles are allowed you must either use a shotgun, muzzle loader or a handgun.

Most WMAs offer public hog hunting. However each WMA is different as far as seasons, requirements and regulations. Keep that in mind. If you go to http://www.myfwc.com and go to the hunting section there are PDF files of regulations and seasons for the individual WMAs along with crude maps and other good information.

I bet you all don't have to go far in FLA to boar hunt. I saw a show on cable TV the other night called Hog Wild (I think). They were showing where neighborhoods are getting over run with them, and there is concern for people's safety.
Is boar open year round? I'm planning a vacation to Fla this year, and boar hunting one day would be a nice break from Disney!

Lower Suwannee Wildlife Refuge & Mallory Swamp Management area-both have TONS of HOGS...
apply now for limited quota hunts on FWC website for best hunts (before June 9th)
Private land generally produce better harvest rates, but public land hunting is cheaper
