bobbed the hammer on my 1911

I like it!

But don't refinish it. The rough-n-tumble look of a well-used gun is much better.

A lack of vision here
So much for being able to conduct dry-fire practice with that one...
There is no good reason to bob the hammer on a 1911.

Anything done for looks will usually cost you elsewhere.
The slide still works and with a bobed hammer there is less chance for it to snag on clothes for ccw. Anything done to a gun for comfort cant cost you else where. No matter how it looks.

It's your gun, do what you want.

It's just the hammer, he can replace with any one of the hundred different styles out there.

Cylinder and Slide has a spur-less hammer I was thinking about trying on one of my 1911's.

I agree it looks cool on some guns but I always figured a bobbed hammer on a cocked and locked 1911 would be more likely to snag becuase of the "ice pick" shape rather that a round profile. I've never really understood bobing hammers on autos and large revolvers

Kinda cool, if it still fires reliably keep it.
You could get rid of the beavertail now. Might be interesting to see how it feels and shoots.

Y'know, when you had just the first set of pics up, I was thinking "well, now that there's no spur or ring on the hammer, he could completely do-away with the beavertail..." And then you went and did just that!

Nice!

Starting to look like a Taurus PT940, though...stick an arched mainspring housing on it, and I think I'd like it even more =)

He didn't "ruin" anything. Colt beavertails and hammers can be had from Brownells if the gun needs to be returned to its original condition. (for whatever reason that may be)

GASP!! The grips and sights aren't original either! Next the other half of the witch hunt will be along to give him grief for that.

Its not like the guy drilled and chopped on a historic piece. Its his gun, and his money...this IS still America.

While not my cup of tea, I don't think it looks all that bad. Kind of reminds me of a Detonics in one of the gun rags recently. Hmmm, folks knock themselves over trying to buy those.

My feelings exactly......Just please do not use the Dremel on the frame or slide.

All it needs now is a bobtail, a melt job, low mount nighht sights and and and..........

I really like it. That is a true redneck engineering masterpiece. I would have used bailing wire on some part of it. You are a better man than I.

Dont worry, I never will alter something that cannot be undone, the frame, slide, and barrel will stay the same.
It does need some night sights though, along with a set of new grips.
Then maybe, A refinish by colt. maybe, dont know yet.
:D
