The slide still works and with a bobed hammer there is less chance for it to snag on clothes for ccw. Anything done to a gun for comfort cant cost you else where. No matter how it looks.There is no good reason to bob the hammer on a 1911.
Anything done for looks will usually cost you elsewhere.

He didn't "ruin" anything. Colt beavertails and hammers can be had from Brownells if the gun needs to be returned to its original condition. (for whatever reason that may be)
