Foaming solvents are popular for those who dont want to use elbow grease to clean a gun. But what aobut the world of automatics with gas ports, gas tubes adn the like?

How do you use a foaming bore cleaner on a gun where the manuals say "do not get any solvent or lube into gas system"

Go to the Bore tech website before you decide on a cleaning chemical. I cleaned firearms for 45 years using the old stinky stuff - worked OK but WOW - then I went to the new water based cleaner and was amazed - super fast and no stink - works exactly as advertised. Good luck.

If you have the ability to close the gas port, do it when you clean the barrel.
On my M1A's I close the gas port and set the rifle upside down in the cleaning cradle when I shoot Wipe-Out into the barrel.

I use Wipe-out a lot and haven't had a hint of a problem.
What are you cleaning?
I only use it on real dirty bores. No need to use it unless the build-up is bad and I want the bore to soak.

I've used the Break-Free foam on several ARs. I've never had any problem with the foam clogging the gas port or tube.

If one was very paranoid you could blow the gas tube out with brake cleaner.

I use the foam every 6 months or thousand rounds or so. It's a very good cleaner but I don't feel the need to use it more frequently.
