I've had a new P226 Elite Dark (that comes with the SIGLITE Adjustable Combat Night Sights) for about a month and have been to the range several times during that time. Every time I am shooting low. At the start I was really anticipating the shot and pushing down. At that time I had one of the store employees come into the range with me and shoot a box through my gun. He drilled the center of the target...so obviously it's me. My mistake was not asking him what sight picture he was using. That's on my list for the next time I go in there.

So I've been reading about sight pictures and how to minimize pushing down. In the process I purchased a bore sight from Sight Mark. When I put it in the gun this is what I found. When I align the top of the three sight fins (1 front/2 rear) (not the dots) the laser is pointing at the very bottom of the front fin.

When I place the tops of the two side/back fins directly in the middle of the white dot on the front fin...then the laser is pointing right behind that front dot.

If the laser is indeed correct then that would partly explain why i was shooting so low. But I don't like that as a sight picture. Trying to align fins and dots doesn't seem right.

Guess I'm just rambling here. Does this seem like a correct factory sight picture? I don't see where the manual explains how it was sighted from the factory.

You simply can't lazer bore sight a handgun.

By necessity, the bore line is pointing down in relation to the sight line.

This makes up for recoil moving the gun up before the bullet gets out of the barrel.

If the store guy shot it and cleaned the targets clock?
You are going something wrong, not the gun.

The correct sight picture is top of front exactly level with top of rear.

Your gun is probably sighted for a center hold, so put the level sights on the X-Ring, concentrated on nothing but the front sight, and squeeze the trigger.

Forget the dots and dashes for the time being. As RC states above, use the top of the sights, focusing on the front sight. Don't distract yourself with any other details.

Also, when you mention "pushing down" you reveal that you are using your entire hand to pull the trigger. Your trigger finger must work independently of the rest of your hand for consistent shooting. The strength of your grip must not change as you pull the trigger or the gun will move every time.

Agree with Kodiak above, it's vital. There's any number of ways to get your trigger-finger to work independently from the rest of your grip. Are you shooting 2 handed? Are you pressing your palms directly toward each other? While you're just sitting around watching TV, grip a roll of quarters tightly in your right hand (if you're right handed) & work on FULLY extending/curling your trigger finger completely independent of you grip. It's just a motion your hand isn't very accustomed to making. The more you practice, the better you'll get.

Sigs come with combat sights. With the 3dots your align them up and cover your target with the center dot. 7 yrds and less you only need the front site.

If you having problems grouping move the target in closer. I do all my shooting 10 yrds or less with my carry guns. With my normal corrected lens the sights are blurry so I just focus on the target and point shoot. I shoot with what I normally have with me.
