I bought 4000 primers today from a local store:
2000 CCI 300
&
2000 CCI 400

I'm excited about getting started but a little nervous too. My brother and I are starting out with 45 ACP and 223 Rem. We were concerned about not being able to get primers so I bought more than I thought we needed for now. We're still trying to get all our stuff purchased (tumbler, scales, calipers, etc) to hopefully load a few rounds during the Christmas break. Hopefully "Santa" will bring us some dies and shell plates.

Goo -
Hey, congrats! "Goo" for you!

I see you're in LA (Lower Alabama). You've got some great bullet suppliers close by that you might want to investigate: Magnus, Zero, and Precision Delta.

Start with jacketed or plated 200gr bullets in your 45ACP, working up to around 850-900 FPS. The pistol rounds load faster and easier (you can get your process honed more quickly), and they unload faster too! That will give you some nice, soft plinking loads that will be fast enough to give you some good feedback on accuracy, smoke, cleanliness, etc. And best of all, it won't cost you an arm & leg.

You'll need a case trimmer to load 223. That's an extra step and more complication you don't need for the first month.

Best of luck.

hogsquat! I started with .223 and moved up to 30-06 and .308 later. I think its better to start out with rifle as being off by a grain either way is a lot more forgiving with a rifle than it is with a pistol.

Wish I could find primers around here. I have been looking for a year now.

Hey kingmt, it's time to quit looking and start buying. :D

Powder Valley and Sinclair both are busting at the gills with Wolf primers in about what ever kind you need. It looks like things are getting some better and are beginning to show up with a little more regularity.

So go get some and get into production.

At that price I will wait for them a while longer. Shipping is as much as the primers.

Just read some good books on reloading, can't trust just the internet. Also, don't go loading 2000 of one load before you try them out.

I'v bought some wolf primers in bulk from somebody over the internet and it was about how much I would have to pay if I were to buy them from my local store, who usually have great prices.
