Yeah, I'd still ask for the story and probably keep it if its not something like a returned lemon, then just get a chip from the guy to work on something down the road in the future (like a free FFL transfer for example)...

i thought about keeping it, but I am very picky about new rifles especially $1,500 rifles. I prefer virgin rifles that way I know exactly what has been shot through them.

For all I know whoever shot it, shot wolf or judging by the brass residue golden bear and shooting russian ammo is a big no no in any of my firearms.

The guys point is -
HE PAID FOR A NEW RIFLE !:cuss:
He didn't get a new rifle; and the shop owner is making it right. Cheers to the shop owner.
I'm his customer for life. Sweet.....
I ordered a new wife - I didn't want a used one.:p

Thankfully I am not stuck with it, I ran into the shop owner at the gun show and he said he would make it right.

To bring it in tomorrow and they will either swap it out for the other one they have in the store or if I don't like that one order me a another one.

Sounds like a good shop to stick with.

So on the way to the shop I stopped by a couple other shops and took a look at their SR-556s, they all exhibited the same use as mine. So, I gave Ruger a call and the guy there said they run a few mags through all of their rifles before shipping. OK.

I went to my original gun shop anyways and took a look at the other Ruger they had there, showed the same amount use... guess I freaked out for nothing, I am keeping the rifle.

I will give huge props to the store... NW Armory in Portland. They were ready to swap the gun out or order me a new one no questions asked. In their own words... "we will do whatever it takes to make you happy".

And after talking to other SR-556 owners, their gun exhibited similar use... so lesson learned.
