I went out today and found a really nice used P228 and bought it. I owned one in the past and like a fool sold it. Told myself that if I ever saw one again in decent shape, i would buy it.

I forgot how solid feeling these things are. Built like a safe and not even the faintest hint of a rattle. I am fairly stoked right about now.

Kudos! I carry one at work and have my own personally. I have put thousands of rounds through my duty weapon while worn out parts have required replacement I have never had a problem. My newer, personal copy shoots likea champ. An excellent balance of ergonomics, concealability and firepower. Really an outstanding pistol. Congrats!

ALA- I believe this one was produced in 1991. It has KB stamped on the slide.

I will post pix most likely later today when I get some time. I went out this morning and put 350 rounds through it and man it is a tight gun!

A vintage P228 is THE Sig to own. It's the perfect balance of weight and size in a 9mm platform.
A P228 is what got me started on my Sig addiction

Good luck with her!

Allow me to liven up the thread until Jax comes through for us.

I've got a P228. Its currently my bedside and hiking gun. I bought it used at CDNN. Its been stone cold 100% reliable, reasonably accurate and easy to shoot.

I recently joined the Sig Club too. I purchased a used 228 at my local dealer.
The pistol, 4 magazines and a OWB holster for $400. The gun has some external wear but functions and fires perfectly.

Sorry about the delay in pix but I will post them tonight after the wife sifts through the shots of the kids. On Tuesday I ordered a short trigger (in nickle), two mags and trijicons from Top Gun Supply. they showed up today. Anyone have any idea how to install the trigger?

What type of accuracy/grouping are you getting with your 228. I am getting a 226 this weekend, but I have been looking for a 228. I do not like the 229 or the 239 and I have heard that people like the 228, but the accuracy is so-so.

Jeez, after seeing the photo of Devonai's 228 (dude, do you ever carry it? --it's too pretty), I guess I'm gonna have to be on the lookout for another one, since my 228's slide is showing a lot of holster wear ...

Ghostrider_23 asks

and then says

So-so accuracy? Bah. Mine (a W. German KB coded, circa 1991) gets exceptional accuracy. From the bench, 3 inches at 25 yards (I can't shoot it that well, but off-hand, I can get a cloverleaf at 7 yards. It was a CPO, used, and never a malfunction, ever.

Good luck with your 226, Ghostrider. Another fine, fine pistol.

Thanks for the compliment, but the photograph doesn't reveal the wear on the edges of the slide. You bet I carry it.

Congrats! And Don't talk yourself into selling it later, you'll regret it! Trust me!

Top Gun also sells the Sig armorers dvd http://www.topgunsupply.com/Sig-Sauer-Armorers-Course-DVD-P-SERIES-pr-131.html
It shows you how to completly strip both the stamped slide and the milled slide "P" Sigs down to the last spring.

To install the trigger you have to push out the take down lever. It pushes out from right to left. As you are pushing the lever from the right side, twist and pull the lever clockwise and it will come out.

After you pull the lever out, take out the locking insert. Make sure the hammer is down (de-cocked) or the insert will not come out.
Once the insert is out, you'll see the trigger pivot pin. You can push the pin out and remove the old trigger and install the new one. Make sure that you make note of how the slide catch lever and trigger bar are positioned for putting the trigger pivot pin back in.

When re-installing the locking insert, make sure the slot in the end of the trigger pivot pin is facing the left side of the gun and that the slot in positioned sideways. Also make sure that the end of the slide catch spring is in the hole of the locking insert.

There are two notches in the trigger pivot pin that the locking insert slides in to. The notches should be facing to the rear of the gun. If the locking insert doesn't want to drop in, slightly turn the pivot pin to the right and left until the locking insert drops into the notches of the trigger pivot pin. Also make sure that the slide catch lever is sitting against the side of the frame of the gun. Sometimes it helps to turn the gun sideways so that the slide catch lever doesn't move and get in the way when you are putting the locking insert back into the gun.

Once the insert is back in the gun, push the take down lever back into the gun. There is a notch in the end of the lever that goes in first. Make sure that the notch is positioned facing the bottom of the gun so the take down lever can be pushed over the slide catch spring. You'll see the edge of the sldie catch spring when you look into the hole that the take down lever pushes into. Push and twist the lever back into position.
I put a dab of grease on the end of the take down lever to make it easier to re-install.

I posted this from memory so I hope I didn't forget anything. It's not too hard to do if you are used to breaking down guns.

Hope this helps. Good luck :)

Send me an email and I will send you detailed instructions on how to change out the trigger. It take about 30 mintues the first time 15 after that.
