I turned 18 on May 10 and today I bought a 10-22 rifle for $200 plus a free 25 round mag and a case when I get back to pick it up at a great gun shop so I will take it to the range next weekend or the next one.I will pick it up on Thursday because of 3 day waiting period.Since ammo for a .22LR is cheap I might as well buy one because my other guns are expensive with ammo in comparison.

Congrats! My first rifle I bought was my Mosin 91/30 when I was 19. I didn't think that Florida had a waiting period on any firearms, much less a rifle. Have fun with your 10/22!

why is there a waiting period for a rifle? you live in florida, that is

what.

huh. help me out here.

Florida is three days on a handgun, no wait on a long gun, unless you have your ccw than walk out with whatever you can afford..

Actually, that depends on where you're located. I don't know where dmx is, but check your county ordinances. In my county, there's a three day wait on rifles unless you have your ccw. Next county over, same deal, but they exclude gunshows.

shucks, Florida even has an exemption on the three days if you can show a receipt for another legally purchased firearm, but I don't know of any counties that haven't preempted THAT.

Congrats.....Now start thinking about all the other calibers that you need to buy.

I could use a Rifle in .223,.270,.308,30-06,and .357 mag
Shotguns I could use another 12 gauge and a 20 gauge would be good to have too.

Kind of exciting to buy your first gun on your own! I remember mine some 27 years ago - a Marlin 783 22 mag rifle. Congrats!

Just a tip for you, since I know you and I are of similar age...

If you get a rifle in a handgun caliber, make a copy of your reciept and bring it along when you buy ammo. That way you can prove that it really is ammo for a "rifle or shotgun", and the dealer, if they have half a brain in their head, will sell it to you. I have no problem buying 9mm at wal-mart, most of the time they don't even care to see the receipt. Then again, the ammo counter guy knows me by sight and knows what I like to buy!

Congrats on your new boomstick. I love .22. Shoot all afternoon for just a few dollars.

With there already being a .22 available to me (Remington 66), and a bolt action rifle (.308 Remington BDL, from an era back when that particular rifle was the affordable kind :D), the first rifle I ever purchased myself was my PTR-91F.

My dad's first words when I brought it home were: "Get your own gun safe for that. It's going to make my rifles feel inadequate." :D
