Let the fun begin

Congratulations on your Springfield 1911, Bear! Now for the Accessories you'll "need" :D to get -

Magazines
Wilson 47D 8 rd.
Chip McCormick PowerMag 8rd.
Tripp Research CobraMag 8rd.
-These three are the best of the best - can't go wrong with any of them.

Grips
VZ micarta grips
Yost-Bonitz micarta grips http://www.yostbonitz.com/
Monkeygrips by Larry Davidson http://davidsonknives.com/grips/grips.htm
Wooden grips by Hakan Pek http://www.imageseek.com/hakan/
-Again, the best of the best

And when you decide you "need" :D another 1911, I highly recommend the Springfield Armory TRP Operator. I got one two weeks ago and it is just OUTSTANDING!! IMO, you can't go wrong with any 1911 made by Springfield - or Colt, for that matter.

You forgot

Alumagrips... awesome grips, my personal favorite. All metal guns rock!

RNB65,

I bought one of those a year ago and I have been very pleased with. I'm actually a Glock fan but I wanted a 1911. Expecting malfunctions with every mag, I took it out the first time and put probably 500 rds. through it with no problems. Probably have that many more through it by now and still no problems. The biggest challenge for me was field stripping thing, since I was used to Glocks. That is not a task for the simple minded (and I border on simple minded).

Progunner is right about the magazines. Myself, I know the Wilson's are supposed to be the best but I think the Chip McCormicks are just as good, especially for half the money.

The 1911 bug once bit me... then came the TLE... then came the GI... and sunday comes a used Mil Spec... next will be a Commander... I now know why you'll see a picture of "some guys" collection of guns and he'll have 5, 10 or even 20 1911's. They're just a really nice pistol platform to shoot with, modify or just plain admire.

I have to say that the Springfield even the base model GI has been one of the most reliable handguns I've ever owned 100% reliable, on WWB 230gr ball, it'll take any mag, it'll cycle with any grip and it doesn't require a 'tool' to field strip.
